While monitoring my gourds I found this little guy. All the other babies had hatched and were a little older. I thought this one might be dead so picked it up. It was so cute! Thought you’d like to see it even if it isn’t bluebirds.

Is he okay? Do you just put him back in the nest?

What a wonderful picture and I for one do not mind that it is not a blue bird. I do not believe I have ever seen a Purple Martin except in bird books. You must be doing something right.

Hi everyone. Sorry….forgot to check back in. Yes it was fine, I just put him back in and he finished hatching on his own. I think I moved him to another nest with younger babies. I’ve had to do that 3 times this year. The little runts wouldn’t make it on their own in a nest full of older siblings. I’m wondering if there is some egg dumping going on. It’s not super logical to think that this one hatched so much later than it’s siblings.
