Sialis. org has lots of good hosp info
DarrellIt can be discussed I think as long as you don’t use graphic details
I use a small cage and a bucket of water
Cheap and effective
Good Luck
Darrell in KCHi Ruth!
Sounds like you need a Van-ert trap
for the male
They are worth every penny
I seem to have the best luck with 2-3
sparrows in the trap-all female
I have caught @ 150 in 10 months with
my drst
I am hoping to get another one soon
Good Luck
Darrell in KCThanks Carol!!
Welcome back Donna!
Darrell in KCI am just now getting the hosp under control so I haven’t had any nesting blues lately-but I did see a pair scouting last week and the hosp immediately trapped him or her in the box-no harm done but I didn’t want to take a chance so I just drilled another hole on the side of the box
You don’t have to buy a new box
Some good info on two -holers at
sialis.org
Good Luck
Darrell in KCI would use cedar
Darrell in KCHave you considered using a two hole box ?
I would hate to see it happen again
Darrell in KCI drilled a second hole on the side of the box-we’ll see what happens
Thanks for sharing your experience
Fred !
The BBs are starting to visit my yard again and I happened to see a hosp had a BB trapped in the box (he or she escaped without harm)
D@#* sparrows!
Tammy -maybe the second entrance could be closed after eggs are laid and switch to a spooker or fishing line
Thanks for your advice too!
Darrell in KCFemale hosp will have a light stripe behind their eye and a solid colored chest
Finches will have a striped chest and no stripe behind the eye
Lots of good ID info at sialis.org
A possible solution to your other problem is to add another entrance hole to the house
This gives the bluebird an escape route if under attack
I think sialis.org has info on this as well
Good Luck

The birds won’t care and it should keep the mammals from eating it
Good Luck 🍀
Darrell in KCSounds perfect to me as long as it’s away from trees and has a baffle for raccoons and snakes
Thanks Dana !
Maybe I can use them to lure some blues back to my yard
Darrell in KCWhat type of door does Kage-all trap have?
Is it just a funnel door?
I couldn’t tell from the picture
What bait are you having the most luck with?
Hosp are starting to nest here in KCWelcome back Lisa and congratulations on your new role as a Grandmother!
Back when I had bluebirds(before hosp invasion) I would call them every morning for breakfast-then went on vacation for a week and they didn’t come back for two months!
Good Luck with yours
