You are correct, Carol, those are merely the overall dimensions. Big box, to be certain, as every board is 1″ thick, western red cedar. The floor is only 4″ x 5 1/2″.

Bedford, New HampshireI am the same way, Lisa. I use my iPhone to take pictures, and then decide from there if I need to spend additional time performing a direct inspection. The problem with my current box is that it is front-opening, and that was the contributing factor in mama getting hurt a couple weeks ago. This solves that problem, for all intent and purposes. I am still holding out hope for a third nesting, this season, as I would love to set up the new nest box!

Bedford, New HampshireSusan, I believe you are correct: we men have gift giving issues. For us, walking into a store is like a surgical strike: “I’m cold. (Walk in, buy a coat) I’m not cold anymore.” That mentality rarely translates into an acceptable strategy for gift giving, so any help our wives can give us is greatly appreciated.
The nest box is EXTREMELY nice. Bought it on Amazon. Recommend without a single reservation or “qualifying statement”. It is perfect IMHO.Randy

Bedford, New HampshireThanks, Connie! Mama is sitting on 3 eggs, and things seem to be going well. They should hatch on June 14th, or so. I did just receive her swanky new nest box (for 3rd nesting this season, or 1st next Spring) in the mail! It’s the least I could do! Got the expected “eye roll” from my wife, but other than that, we’re good! :)

Bedford, New HampshireThank you, Susan. Just got a real good look at her, up close. She landed next to me to drink from a sprinkler head puddle, and she was moving very well. When she flew back to the box she entered it with that smooth, all-in-one motion, that makes me think she is basically back to normal. She is amazing.

Bedford, New HampshireMama blue has returned home. I believe she is okay. At 10:30am she sat briefly on a branch near the box, and then flew off. She looked a little shaky, but better than yesterday. At 3:10pm she returned. She looked MUCH better, and went right into the box for over and hour. When she emerged, I watched her hunt and eat for 40 minutes or so, and she then returned to nest. Papa has been on-guard all day. I am going to give them their space for a few days. I am just thankful that she is recovering. Thank you all, again, for your support.
