They loved mealworms the best of course but those were getting too expensive. In years past I had them trained so they would come to the feeder during the winter for peanut butter suet.

I bought a Gilberston a few years ago and have had chickadees and Prothonotary warblers use it. Since Mr. Gilbertson no longer makes them I made one of Fred’s Hexagon boxes (the smallest size) and painted it to look similar to a Gilbertson. It’s pretty close to being round inside.

At the time I bought this there were a couple of other people selling that were as high as $69 for the pattern kit. I bought one that was half that plus shipping. There was a nicer quality one (same thing but more detail) by a different company that was $119 but that one was too much for my budget.

Thank you Tammy, I use to do a lot of it too but haven’t in a long time and saw thing and thought it would look nice. Now I just have to get around to having it framed.

Carol, Thank you, I believe it was done on an evenweave linen, as it was not an Aida cross stitch fabric that’s for sure. This was the first time I ever did something on that kind of counted cross stitch fabric. I’ve always used Aida fabrics before and I believe it did take me longer to do it than it would have on an Aida fabric. I had to count the little holes to make sure all my stitches were right. I doubt I’ll ever do something on that stuff again.
Yes, I still have the pattern as I bought this as a kit on ebay.

Unfortunately, the cheap bird seed has just enough good seed in it to attract some native birds too.

I had a pair of blues using a box for roosting one year when it was really cold out and we had a lot of snow. They used it for several nights in a row. That was a few years ago and it was the only time so far.

Hi Everyone! I found you all. Luckily I checked the old site before it was taken down. Anyways for those of you who may not know my name is Renee and I live in Winslow, IN. I joined way back in 2006 wow almost 10 years ago. I’ve hosted BBs, Dees, Robins, Cardinals, House Finches, PROWs, MODOs, Chipping Sparrows, TRES and once I had a Song Sparrow nesting, two attempts by TUTIs but neither were successful :( This past nesting season was the first time I didn’t get a single EBB nesting a first since I started back in 2006. Anyways glad I found you all.
