In my experience it’s definitely necessary to clean out the box. Bluebirds tend to ignore boxes that look used. But there’s no need to use a bleach water mixture unless it’s infested with mites or something. Just remove the nest and scrape out the sides and floor with a paint scraper.

You can remove the eggs now. If you leave them in, it normally doesn’t hurt anything, although 3 is a lot.
If the babies are 12 days old you need to stop monitoring. By day 13 for sure. You can just watch from a distance. You can only see them beg for food the first several days. And only if you click your tongue or make a noise with your mouth. At some point they know to have fear when they hear something that isn’t their parents and instead of begging for food they almost play dead. They stay really still.
Soon you’ll see them peeking out and then they will put not only their head out but also have their feet in the hole. Then you will know they are ready to fledge any time.Tammy
It’s amazing how long it takes them to finish that first nest and start laying!! Only one or two people have been posting here this season so far.

Yay on your little hatchlings.
Good advice from phillyblues!Tammy
Trust me, I’m not spending hardly any time on it. I’m just curious too.
I think it’s probably as you suggested. Members only have a certain amount of time to edit. I’m guessing this is something I knew at one time but forgot. :)
I’m guessing that’s for a reason. If something questionable (rude, mean, etc) is said the person can’t rewrite what they said before the admins have a chance to see it. Or sometimes people change their post and therefore none of the comments under it make any sense.-

Maybe it is something that I can only see. I asked Cher to clarify. Are you using a computer/laptop or your phone?

Edit is the first one. It’s right by the date and time for me. If I’m on my phone on portrait mode it doesn’t show very well because the word is divided. On landscape mode it’s easy to see.
Tammy
The edit button should always be available. You just must not have noticed it before.
Glad you saw one baby. They don’t move hardly at all when they are newly hatched. But will be begging for food when you open the box soon. Do some clicking with your mouth or kissing sounds and see what happens tomorrow or whenever you check again.Tammy
YAY! So close. I would check earlier than 14 days. It’s usually 12/13 days for me.
Tammy
When is the projected hatch date? 12 days from when the last egg was laid. Make sure you check on that day to see if they hatched …it’s just so much fun.

Yay!
Tammy
So 4 eggs is the final total? Glad it’s going well for you.
Tammy
That one worked. If you attach it to the back of your box like the bottom left photo, add about 3 inches to the pvc pipe. The streamers are strips of Happy Birthday signs from Walmart. The ones that are sliver and shiny on the back.

Does this link work for a sparrow spooker. https://nestboxbuilder.com/pdf/spooker.pdf

They do know which birds are a threat and which ones aren’t. But they will scare all birds away when they have babies. They’ll fuss at you too.
You won’t necessarily see a HOSP at your box before there is an issue. It will just suddenly happen. If you have house sparrows in your yard you will have problems eventually….probably sooner than you think. But hopefully not.
I reread your first note here and I realize that you already know what House Sparrows can do.-
