Welcome, Connie. I doubt that anyone has a nesting pair around you right now but they are shopping for boxes. Glad to have you here. The numbers of this group fluctuate from year to year. Right now it’s kind of small. How close are your 2 boxes? Bluebirds are territorial and normally like to be 300 feet apart from each other. Sometimes they don’t follow that rule but that’s the norm. It does help if they are not in view of each other. Example, one box in the backyard and one box in the front yard. But you can get other species in your second box like tree swallows, and chickadees

How amazing that bluebirds nest on your patio of a two story building! First I’ve ever seen. And it looks like you may not have much of a choice to do it that way. I agree you might have 3 nests! I used to every year but recently I have not. I won’t get on your case for mounting it on your porch posts but it will work until it doesn’t. You could go for years without anything happening but at some point it will. It’s just too easy for critters including squirrels to get to…..or snakes!!!! Do you have rat snakes in your area? They LOVE eggs and babies. But for now…enjoy your bluebirds.

But…I like the photo of her feeding her young.

Lubricator! What is that box doing on that post? tsk tsk I have raccoons that come in the middle of night and climb right up those posts that hold up my pergola. They walk all around on top of my pergola and get to my feeders that way. I imagine they could do it there too even though that looks to be on a second floor.
I just googled and found photos of a raccoon in Canada that went up 10 floors. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3599601/Crafty-Canadian-raccoon-climbs-10th-floor-balcony-Ontario-cornered-wildlife-control-net.htmlTammy
I have that going on here somewhat too. There’s no snow on the ground here today but it’s pretty chilly outside.

Mine used to stay ALL winter but the past two year they are scarce from October -Jan and sometime after that they come back.
Tammy
So does that mean you haven’t had any snakes try to access it? or they just didn’t get caught in the netting?
Tammy
Aww ….Cute. I wish we could upload photos directly from our computer like we can on Facebook.

Your weather is worse than ours.

Wow, I’m amazed how many are not on FB. I can certainly understand why. I do some social stuff on there but my biggest time is spent on a purple Martin group that has 964 members and our company business page.
Tammy
Wow….that’s quite a storm. We had really scary winds here but we haven’t gotten much snow – just a few inches and now it’s mostly gone.
Tammy
I think there’s directions in the sticky notes at top. I’ll look. I think it’s similar to before.
Tammy
I must not have seen the right photo of the trap online because it didn’t look like a repeating trap. I’ll look again.
Tammy
Thanks
