During my “research”, I saw some suggestions about using an umbrella. Maybe that could work for you?

        Carol-Mid-Mo.,
Thank you for the information. The box is not out in the open. It is attached to an outdoor structure with the opening facing east, so it doesn’t receive any western exposure and is shaded most of the day by the roof of the structure it is attached to. It does have a double wood roof with 1″ spacing and extra overhang, but no side shields. I will install a heat shield on the north and south side as an extra precaution. I plan to make the heat shield from 3/4″ styrofoam and attach reflective foil tape with the tape facing away from the box and 1″ spacers. Hopefully this will help. I think we will have a scorcher of a summer this year.

I’m using the fishing line like you mentioned. I also have a line hanging from the top on the left and right side of the box with a screw nut tied to the bottom of the line. The two nuts swing in the wind. Maybe a little overboard, but it works. I leave this up all year. Sparrows have stayed away and it doesn’t bother our BB. I haven’t needed a hole protector on the box so I don’t have experience with one of those. Hopefully your BB will be back soon. Maybe they are out house shopping. :)

I found a semi-local wildlife rehab place that will take them for use in their learning center with students. I’m glad they don’t have to die.

I will try and mark the eggs. It will be hard to take a picture because the eggs are tucked under the nesting material. But I will try and place them in a strategic way to see if they are moved. Thank you!
