Countrygirl, that wasn’t me. I came here from “Dave’s Garden” after this forum started. I really enjoy posting the photos – although as I said before, they all seem to look the same from year to year.

Dad bird taking a break from feeding

Here is the first look of a young one taking a peek outside at the real world. Tomorrow will be decision day.

Stafford, VAMay 19, 2019 at 8:30 pm #7241Here is Mom with another one of those monster grubs. Eat hardy kids. This is the last free lunch.

Another of that meal.

And another little one takes a look. It is getting late.
I hope to be able to get one or two of the birds leaving the nest tomorrow. We will see. I have not had much success judging when they will leave.

Stafford, VAMay 19, 2019 at 8:42 pm #7242Fabulous pictures David. I too like the darkened background. I have seen papa bring in some big grubs here too, maybe it is the wet weather that has plumped them up.
ConnieMay 19, 2019 at 9:50 pm #7248Thanks Connie. I haven’t thought of that. You are right. It has bee rainy and cool for so long this spring. Maybe the grubs are staying in e ground longer due to the weather.

Stafford, VAMay 19, 2019 at 10:01 pm #7249About the dark background, I can’t claim a lot of credit for that. The first photos were taken 2 days ago at around 7:15 – 7:30 AM in the morning with an overcast sky and the sun barely peeking through the clouds. The second set, taken this evening at between 6:30 and 7:30 PM and sun setting behind my neighbors house and trees. The adjustment that I made on the computer was to reset the “clarity and color” of the photos. I have never tried the settings that I used until these photos. See what you can do when you read the instruction manual.

May 20, 2019 at 9:21 pm #7265David, the latest pictures are great too. Have the little ones fledged yet? Mine will take wing around the 31st. It has been an interesting year for everyone by the sounds of it.
ConnieMay 21, 2019 at 9:08 am #7267The good news is that all 4 have fledged. :). The bad news is once again I missed the fledging. I watched over an hour yesterday morning as the parents shuttled food to the little ones and sat on the hook appearing to coax them from the box. No takers. Came back after a couple of hours running some errands and didn’t see the parents at all. Checked the box and it was empty. So… I am cleaning the box and will try again with the next brood.

Stafford, VAMay 21, 2019 at 4:04 pm #7279Sorry you missed the big event……I’m sure they planned it that way. The good part is we have 4 more blues in the air. Good luck with the next brood.

May 21, 2019 at 9:37 pm #7285Great news on the fledge David. Sorry you missed it. I actually witnessed both broods take wing last year, do not know if I will be that lucky again, but it was a real joy to watch. I hope you are around to catch the event next time.
ConnieMay 21, 2019 at 10:31 pm #7286Thanks Judy and Connie. I saw the male bird on a wire across the street this morning but none of the little ones. I cleaned the nestbox and left it to dry while I mowed the lawn. I will put it up tomorrow and wait for the pair to start another nest. I have a heat shade ready to attach to the top of the box.

Stafford, VAMay 23, 2019 at 9:10 am #7302Love your pictures, David – really have missed not being able to post pictures, although my pictures are nothing compared to yours!
May 23, 2019 at 9:50 am #7303Thanks Carol. My wife thinks that I bother the bluebirds too much and take more photos of the birds than I do of our grandkids. (Guilty…)

Stafford, VAMay 23, 2019 at 4:03 pm #7313David….I got a real chuckle out of your last post. I think this bluebirding is turning me into the crazy bird-lady! LOL
