That looks like shell imperfections to me and not dents or what I think of as dents anyway. They’re like little moon craters. On the top egg: that white streak looks like a fecal smear.

Lice? You are not apt to get lice from birds. Sometimes birds do have feather mites and handling an infested bird might cause transfer to your skin but you would see them. Water rinses them right off. And then the skin crawlies start…

I am thinking HOWR in this case. A HOSP would be singing like crazy on top of that box is what I’m thinking. What I would do is give them a wren guard next time. HOWR are sneaky.

BHNU really are the cutest little things. Every nest I have seen didn’t have a true cup, just a slight depression in the middle. The “nest” isn’t usually more than an inch or two deep.

All I know is, if you start off with live food you will probably get quicker results. It’s the movement of the worms that attracts the EABL. After they are reliably trained, you could mix in a little of the dead stuff and see what happens. If you make a gradual change chances are better they will adapt.

Some research suggests that mealworms are calcium DEPLETING and that is why it has been recommended to add calcium CARBONATE to them. It’s just supposed to be a light dusting. I can’t tell y’all where or when I read all this. My brain is basically cluttered with a bunch of trivia.
