Yes they did and successfully fledged! What a strange season, indeed!

          ***UPDATE

So I checked today after marking the eggs and laying a piece of straw across the box opening and there was no activity. I removed the nest and eggs and I broke open all 4 and there was absolutely no development…just yolks. Meanwhile the kids are still visiting the meal worm feeder. Will be looking forward to a successful 2021.

Is it also possible that the eggs were not viable?

Carol, I haven’t…there are tiny nicks in the eggs like from when she turns them and we usually get dive bombed when we go to open the box..and that hasn’t been happening. This is the first year for us that a lot of the kids have come back to the feeder…so even though they poop in the dish, it has been nice to see them 😅…like I said earlier, at least the eggs haven’t hatched and my gut tells me the female is gone or abandoned them for some reason…I had a great season otherwise :bluebird:

Frankly I was relieved when the 2nd group fledged because I do worry throughout the process 😑 I hope our heat wave breaks soon..it is uncommon for our area to get 3…they did start a bit earlier this year than in past years…perhaps that is why..

Hi Judy sorry for the late reply…yes they do typically hang around all winter although we do not see much of them…and lo and behold we just found a 3rd nest. They rebuilt in the 1st house…this is rare for us!

Hi Carol…this is a first time for me…a day was skipped and a 3rd egg appeared today…very strange as I have read that she only skips a day if it is cold…I wonder if something happened to the original female and if this is a different one? What are your thoughts?

My second nesting started also after a successfully fledge of 5. This one just has 2 eggs…a first for me in the 10yrs I have been doing this 🤔

She is definitely gone…he hasn’t been around too much so he knows she is gone too. The eggs were cold and there was a dead meal worm on one of the eggs…I’m hoping he can attract another female although they are probably busy with there hatchlings right now in upstate NY. We have always seen success both with the blues and swallows so this failure is new to us lol….
