Thanks, David. Those are with my new Canon 55-250 lens which you inspired me to buy! I just need a tripod to steady my 51 year old hands….lol
Question for ya. I posted in another thread, but haven’t had a response yet. My pair built a new nest in the same box less then 24 hours after the little guy fledged and I cleaned it out. It’s been 19 days and no eggs. Both parents are around. Both go in and out of the box, most notably the male who seems to keep looking for a new egg. He almost seems as distressed as I am at the absence of anything new.
Do you have any experience with the typical time it takes to lay a new brood after the first fledged and best is built?
I’m beginning to think there might be an issue with the female.
Thanks.

David,
Once again, spectacular pics. You inspired me to by a 55-250 zoom for my Canon Rebel XTi, and the pics are spectacular, especially now that my single fledgling has come out of hiding after two weeks.
How do you post pics like these on this forum?

I had one fledge 17 days ago. The baby, Patriot, has come out of hiding this week and is being fed by the parents. It’s quite a sight.
The parents built a second nest in the same box and in another box close by within 24 hours of fledging. They are around daily and go in and out of the box all day long, yet no new eggs after 17 days of second nest building.
Any thoughts?
I have a pair of TRES with 6 eggs that I believe hatched today, as the pair is flying in and out all day long. I assume they are feeding the newborn. There is never a time when one of the parents isn’t in the nest, so it’s impossible to monitor, unlike my blue birds who left the nest frequently so I could monitor.
Does anyone have experience with monitoring TRES nest boxes? Seems like a completely different experience then with blue birds.
Update….
It’s been 6 days since both nests have been completed and still no eggs anywhere.
I opened my pool, which is in close proximity to the box just yesterday.
Anyone with experience as to how long they take to start laying eggs again on round 2? I’m afraid they’ve decided on neither of the 2 nests they built and may have gone elsewhere, although I still see them around.

Thanks, Donna. Looks simple.
I just bought a snooker for the sparrows, and I’m currently working on eliminating the Starlings from my feeders. They are vicious pigs and are incredibly difficult to keep away. They laugh at my dome feeder. They manage to reach in to the enclosed cage feeder I bought on this site, and they are relentlessly trying to get in to my enclosed feeder with plexiglass.

PAHi Lisa.
Small world…..
Can any of you advise where to purchase the wren guard and sparrow spooker? I have no problem at the current time, but would like to be proactive.
Thanks.

Collegeville, PAGreat news!
After sawing off limbs on the tree with the woodpecker box to try to reduce the number of sites within reach of any potential predators, and putting a hole reducer on, Mom and Pop have decided to start building a new nest in the original box, which I cleaned out last night. Maybe they were waiting for me to tidy it up for them and remove the old nest. Or maybe they just wanted to see me work my butt off to protect the nest they just made before doing the right thing.
Incidentally, the woodpecker box had a completed bluebird nest……….all in 48 hours.
Hi Gin,
He/She fledged! I couldn’t resist checking upon returning home from 48 hours out of state, and the nest is empty. I’m bummed I missed it. Is there a chance I will see it feeding with the parents?
I checked my woodpecker box. lol and behold, they have completed a new nest in there in under 48 hours.
I cleaned the old box out, which is a standard bluebird box on a pole with a baffle, and they are now checking that out. My hope is they rebuild there, because the woodpecker box isn’t exactly safe for them, even though I just placed a 1.5 inch hole reducer with a copper cover on top.

Tam,
Quick question. What do you plug the hole with?
Thanks.
Scot
Hi Tam,
Yes, I am certain of the hatch date.
I’ve been out of state since yesterday, so my wife is on fledge watch. Still not sure if he’s gone, but his parents are building furiously in the woodpecker box.
I bought a size reducer for the woodpecker box and will be putting that on when I get home later today.
Then tomorrow, I’ll peek in the old box and see what’s what. I figured not having siblings to show him the way or force him out combined with the ung-dly cold and wet weather in the northeast may be contributing to the delayed fledge.
Thanks for the advice. I’ll keep you posted.
