I had the same thing happen one year. I never figured out what it was. I try not to let them soraynmy hard while the babies are newly hatched just in case that is it. Sorry. I know it’s heartbreaking.

Yes he is. I’ve had a HOSP here and 2 on the trail that claimed a box and as soon as I put a trap in those little stinkers would not go in the box for days. I even camouflaged the bar and put a leaf over the dot and still nothing. I finally took out all 3 traps and just gave up for now.

Glad you ar finally are joining us again! I’m on Facebook way too much too. It’s so much easier navigating then this forum, I’m on a few Ohio bird groups, a purple martin group and our business page.
Sorry about your dog. I’m pet-less now and am surprised how much I’m enjoying the freedom. Never thought I’d be without a pet. It’s so hard when they’re ill.

Ha ha ha….did I say Frank? Gin always has to watch me. Thanks for the correction! I didn’t even know I did that.

I have about 8 TRES pairs that nest at my house each year. Anyone want any? 😉 HOSP have gone in and destroyed their eggs but only once or twice. The TRES seem much better at defending their boxes so I stopped putting spookers on them.

Welcome Mel. I live with farm fields on 2 sides of me too and have a pond so like you my birds are slightly different than other peoples backyard birds. Welcome here!

Hi Courtney. I knew that was you! I know, regarding the changes. The other forum was costing us (remember the unwanted ads?) so Cher switched to here. It’s a little clunky but it works. And a few followed us over. Some got lost in the transition. But we were kind of slow even before we moved. Glad you are here.

I think you’re hoping to make your own and you aren’t finding the right wood. Ask, Frank. He would know. You can personal message him or just wait…he’ll check in here.

Scot, did you put that House sparrow that you killed in your DRST as a decoy? That’s what you need to do. I’ve had my trap out for a week and caught nothing. Yesterday I trapped one with my VAn Ert and put him in the DRST and before dark I had another male in there. HOSP draws HOSP. I was only catching natives before this. So use your Van Ert to catch a decoy for the other trap. Even if you have to get another cheap box to use for that purpose.

How cold did it get? The decoys last quite awhile if you cover them at night. Aren’t you up north somewhere? Canada? I’m trying to remember.
