Thanks for sharing photos and videos I enjoy seeing them all. They are great quality too.
Lisa….your baby birds look about the same age as mine. My single baby hatched on 4/22/23. It’s been so cold here, I’m still worried about hypothermia. Hope mama blue continues to keep it warm at night.

April 27, 2023 at 6:49 pm #27079Judy – How cold is it getting there? I would say it’s seasonable here. The first egg hatched today and it’s suppose to be around 50 tonight. Last couple nights ago it got down in the 30’s.
I plugged all the vent and drain holes on my house and wrapped it with this thick pad I folded a couple times. Didn’t quite reach all the way around so I stuffed some foam down there and zip tied the whole thing. It stays 7ish degrees warmer at night and over 10 degrees warmer in the day when the suns out. Not sure if it’s something you could do. I would think they should be good, she keeps them pretty warm.
April 28, 2023 at 3:46 pm #27080Dave, before they hatched we had 5 nights below 32 degrees lowest temp was 27 degrees. Out of 5 eggs only one hatched. After hatching we have had 5 nights 32 degrees or less, lowest being 28 degrees. The super baby is hanging in there, we’re on day 7 where the feathers start to open out of their sheaths. The coldest night next week is 33 degrees. I’m hoping it keeps hanging on.
I have had my box wrapped like yours from the get go. Your box even looks like mine, it’s a nature’s way box. It’s always the first box they choose. Thanks for sharing your photo, I enjoyed seeing it.
Congratulations on your new hatchling hope the others hatch today too.

April 30, 2023 at 5:59 pm #27088Thank you. I wish I had purchased the trap when I posted here first. I had a pair of blues yesterday morning, timing the HOSPs had finally given up after the hatch had been open for about 2 weeks. Sure as _hit, the sparrows were back on top of the box and started a nest the same day the bluebirds came around. I will be removing the nest and getting a trap sooner than later at this point.
May 2, 2023 at 9:13 pm #27103Judy, I’m new to the forum. Wondering where in MI you are. I’m on the WI/MI border. No bluebirds, no wrens, no swallows yet.

May 3, 2023 at 1:40 am #27107Pic of babies taken yesterday, looks like three girls and one boy. They’re growing so fast! Will have to stop looking in on them in the next day or two—-

May 3, 2023 at 8:59 am #27111Dave, those videos are amazing! Not sure how much work goes into editing and uploading them but thanks for doing it. The ones of mama making the cup and wiggling had us oohing and aahing over here!
May 3, 2023 at 9:46 am #27112It’s not hard at all, just trying to find the time saving and uploading everything. Designing takes some time too and can be frustrating. Just going to keep adding to it. I’m going to redo some of the videos with longer ones and some more variety of activity.
May 12, 2023 at 8:46 am #27172Well, two of the babies fledged on Tuesday. It’s now Friday and another one just fledged. She’s been standing and hopping around in our courtyard for the past hour. She’s so tiny! Mom and Pop can’t get her to fly yet but they’re trying to convince her! I think there’s one still left in the nest because Pop keeps looking in there. I had noticed after hatching that one or two of the birds were a lot bigger than the others, so the smaller ones must have needed more time to develop. I’ll keep you all posted!
