Congratulations. Mine just hatched this morning
David
Stafford, VAThanks Tim, Never thought of that.
David
Stafford, VANot much happening here. The female is sitting on the eggs off and on. I did notice an interesting event about a half hour ago. I just put some mealworms out in the feeder. Both birds watched me. When I went in the house and look out my back window I saw the female blue enter the nest box while the male went to the feeder. After he had eaten a few of the mealworms, he appeared to pick up a couple and flew to the nest box to feed the female. He has just finished his 3rd trip.

Stafford, VAMay 10, 2025 at 12:19 pm in reply to: Bluebirds not laying eggs yet? Nest looks done. What gives? #28126I think that I mentioned the moving the box in another thread. I have done that in the past. I moved the box from my back yard to the front yard. The Blues found it and built another nest, which did survive the rest of the season. I kept it out of sight from the original position. I do have an acre and a half lot to work with and my house is centered in the lot.

Stafford, VAI have never figured out the proper way to post images on this forum. The forum that hosts my photos has a BBCodes version of the image but I haven’t been able to figure out how to use it.

Hope this helps.-

David
Stafford, VAI use “imgur.com.” A little tricky to use at first but it is free. I started using it 4 or 5 years ago when Photobucket started charging for use.
David
Stafford, VAGood news, Tim.
David
Stafford, VAThat is strange. Maybe Tammie can help us out here. I am not sure about the legality of the issue, but I would put the egg over in the nest and see if she accepts the move. I have never seen an egg in an empty nest box. Not sure how healthy that would be for the young hatchlings.

David
Stafford, VAAnd another one. I did put up the Sparrow Spooker but the wind is blowing the Mylar strips almost horizontal.. I might have to tape some lead pellets to the ends to keep them down a bit.

David
Stafford, VAHave to repair the spooker, but we do have a second egg.

David
Stafford, VAJackie and Tammie, I have heard that also, that the female is the one that shapes the cup. But the male can do some work while he delivers his beak of material. I would imagine that the female will go in right after he leaves to “do it the right way.”
I have also noticed that my female bird is almost as colorful as the male bird this time. The earlier female had a duller blue back.
David
Stafford, VAA good defense is attentive parents.
Good luck BlueDaBaDee.David
