Dana, no worries. As you will find out, I have tons of trivia stored in my brain. Most is useless!

That is an over zealous female. I would take out some of that material at the bottom. She’ll never know.

I know I haven’t been around a whole lot lately, but please listen to me on this.

Cavity birds raise their young in the dark for a reason. The skylight boxes are not a good thing for developing eyes. A box with a hole in the roof would be the absolute last resort.

At least they’re out and you will see them soon I hope. They need a NO VACANCY sign at this point.

You might be the last. That really is bizarre, considering where you are!

What a bummer but at least that one did fledge.

Next year no heat waves allowed up there! Do you have air conditioning? I know in some parts of the country almost nobody does because the heat isn’t like down here most of the time.

Ten days is my rule, Lisa. They are big enough at that point. I don’t see how 4 days does any good at all. We all have to do what we have to do, but I would NEVER take off a guard at 4 days. EVER.

HOSP. Ugh. Maybe that’s the culprit in this case. Get him, Cari!

Cari, the list of things to try in defending against heat is pretty short: really good ventilation, heat shielding, shade, thick walls, large roof overhang, facing the box away from afternoon sun.

Whitney, I would be STOMPING around if I had a house wren nest!

I hope those eggs hatched today.

Cari, since they lost all of these maybe they will try again this season. How late have you ever had a nest?

PB is being very uncooperative here. I wish I could see your invention.

So sorry about your chicks. Sometimes whatever we do, things just don’t work out.

Cari, did you move the box? It can be done but the degree of difficulty depends on how the box is mounted.

No matter how the box is mounted, it’s way safer to move 9 day old nestlings than it is eggs or older chicks.
