Oh Cari. Like Carol, I don’t think it was heat because 90 isn’t so bad as long as there is ventilation. You have that, right?

No need to remove the egg. I wouldn’t anyway.

Dana, the protecting of the food supply should end in about another month. When there are so many young mouths to feed the pressure is intense. Everybody is going to “play nice” pretty soon.

Here is some heat info for you http://www.sialis.org/heat.htm

Remember that it can be a whole lot hotter in an unventilated box that gets no shade than it is outside.

I give mine the same bleach treatment about every other year.

              Glad they all fledged!

How old are they? If they are still in the tiny food stage, it’s super hard to see anything being carried in a beak.

If they are strong enough to gape they are probably being fed. ‘

When watching a box, if you look away for as little as 10 seconds you can miss an adult arriving.

That would be great, Gin. Mid-February would be the perfect time to send one along, to ensure full-blown clinical depression, on my end… :)

Can do. Don’t be thinking I will forget. :bye:

Randy, don’t you DARE post anymore weather forecasts like that. Having said that, maybe I will show you a winter forecast for Atlanta in the future. :BagOverHead:

Carol, if it’s dead the sooner you remove it the better. A decaying nest mate won’t make the others sick but could start drawing flies. The live ones can also get their feet stuck in the decaying flesh.

If you get him out and he’s alive then super. In either case, glove up.

Cari, as with any species things happen. Could be there was something wrong with the embryos both times. Fertilizing them could be an issue if the male has problems. Sometimes it’s the health of both/either of them. Most of the time we just don’t know. One thing I do know is she does know how to get them fertilized.

I have seen females bury eggs where you can’t see them but they do sometimes remove them. Obviously they don’t make a mess when that happens.

Connie, there are tons of boxes! This is one of my favorites http://nestboxbuilder.com/nestboxbuilder-products.html#S22 He makes incredibly well built boxes. I have one of his for a CARW. When my boxes have lived out their lives, I am getting a couple of these.

Susan, if wrens aren’t active where you are this Sunday is fine. I like 10 days here.
