I hear you, BZ! LOL. My box is in my small front yard in an HOA neighborhood. I know my neighbor’s have got to think I’m crazy with all the concoctions on/around my box.

Best of luck to you & your blues, BZ! Is your box in the shade? If your box is in the sun, have you considered a heat shield? Forgive me if you’ve already addressed. Our temps in AL are similar. Hope it all works out!

So sorry, Cher! I was afraid since we had not heard from you since your last report. You & Evie have had a tough season! I hope those blues will settle in with you before too long.

Wow, super impressive! What craftsmanship! Wish I could bring you to my house to build things. Beautiful property too!

Oh, & Rich, now I remember you saying you had a baffle. So hard to keep up!

Yay, Rich! So glad you got it moved to a better/safer location! Hope you & your Mama have fertile eggs!

Awe, so sorry! Was afraid of that. We all learn from experience unfortunately. At least you know what to do moving forward. I don’t have a deluxe repeating sparrow trap, but I know a lot of people on this forum use millet seed to attract HOSP into the trap. Hope you get the culprits!

Hey Rich- so glad you’re able to move it gently. Question: do you have a baffle on the pole?

Glad they’re moving forward for a 2nd brood! My 2nd brood nestlings are 14 days old. Yesterday was my last peak.

                              Hi Lyndsey-

I haven”t fed wax worms to EABL nestlings,so I can’t speak to that(do offer mealworms). The only thing I can tell you is that the parents will come back to that baby in the morning. I had two that couldn’t take flight last year upon fledging & the parents came back & fed them all day long. My concern was that mine couldn’t get off the ground, which made them vulnerable to predators. It sounds like at least yours are off the ground. Hopefully, that little one can get in a comfortable position for the night.

You can purchase a sparrow spooker for $19.95 on the website Rich listed above. A lot of people make their own. You can google images of different homemade sparrow spookers, which should be easy/inexpensive to make. Since you would have to wait to get one shipped, you may just want to go buy some strips of Mylar & find a way to hang them where bottoms of streamers are all touching your box. If that was a house sparrow egg, I’m afraid your bluebirds may be headed for trouble if you don”t install one. No guarantees, but it”s the most effective tool outside of trapping.

Lastly, make sure your bluebird pair accepts it after installing. Hope it all works out!

That’s great, BZ! My 2nd brood of nestlings are 8 days old. So far, so good. I’m in AL, so we are in the 90’s as well.
