That doesn’t mean she won’t nest there. Keep watching.

I trapped and relocated house wrens at my friends house and the next day she had another pair. Sorry, Gin!! How awful!!
Carol, yes it feels amazing. And now she’s obsessed.Tammy

I can relate to your childish tantrum. Been there! LOL

A HOSP bonding with a box is a WIN for me! I love to see that. That means I wont’ every have to worry about that HOSP again. It’s the best thing that can happen here….other than to have no HOSP at all.

Did you take a photo of the eggs or put a dot on them to see if they are unmoved? My eggs were laid in very cold temps. Maybe not below 0 but definitely in the one or two digits. And I bet they are fine. It’s amazing how they can survive!

I know, I’ve heard people say that blues like to use old nests, but I find that if there is any resemblance of a nest in my boxes on my trail or at home…no bird will start a nest in it. House Sparrows are the exception; but tree swallows and bluebirds avoid that box with the start of nest like the plague. Have you had different experience, Brenda?

You wrote the same thing in the body of another post and Gin answered you there.

I’ve given up trying. No patience!

And I have no trivia stored in my brain. I count on Gin for all of that. LOL Funny but kind of true.
Carol. Does your friend monitor her martin house? Do they have martins? They probably won’t get martins if they let their bluebirds nest in that house. They have co-existed before but it isn’t the norm.Tammy
Susan. “Trapping them would be useless–there are hundreds of them everywhere. ” That’s not at all true. You can’t believe the difference it will make if you trap. When I first started hosting bluebirds I had at least 50 or more HOSP in my backyard anytime I looked. I started trapping. One year I trapped 406 and another 352. In 2015 I trapped only 81.(Don’t know where my recent numbers are). And now when I look outside I see maybe 10…not 50plus. And now I rarely have house sparrow attacks. I still trap with a Van Ert trap and a DRST. Do it.

I’ve had them start to nest at my house but for some reason were discouraged and left. :) But a friend of mine had her first bluebird pair that nested in her yard and she was so excited. A wren came in and took out every egg. This year she has a new nest of 5 eggs and a wren guard on it. I’m walking her through it and her and her husband are hooked … big time. Love it.

Yep, to what Carol said. You’ll pull their nests out over and over again! They never give up. But your bluebirds will give up on your box. You need to buy a Van Ert Trap. They are cheap. And dispose of the HOSP.
Wrens at my place don’t follow the 50 – 200 feet away (or even 600) rule. They’ve tried to nest in my boxes a few times and I have very few trees and no shrubby areas.Tammy
Congrats. Mine has 5 eggs that should hatch any day now. (NW Ohio)
