Hey, Bob. You can find options on eliminating them here. http://www.sialis.org/hospdispatch.htm If you’d like info on what is the most popular ways I’ll personal message you that.

Ditto, to what Fred said.

I’m not getting very much feedback but I just can’t see it happening. Since you have the trap already…just try it. Only have it out when your home and watch it. I’m not sure how you’ll keep seed in the trap though with chickens around. Give it a try. I could almost promise you that won’t happen. (but not quite)
Tammy
It seems like particular birds do this more than others. I had a pair that never did this but but this pair does.
Tammy
Sounds like everything worked out!
Tammy
I still doubt it. A morning dove can get stuck but that’s because his entire body get’s lodged into the trap. I’m guessing your chickens at the least would just reach in with their heads. I doubt they wouldn’t be able to get it out but don’t know for sure. I’ll ask on a purple martin forum and see if anyone there knows. Check back later.

Or….he could build you one.

Cluttered or not….at least it’s in there. Too bad I can’t say the same.

You can find the calcium powder in the reptile section of the pet store.
Tammy
I’m not against them at all, but like you just don’t understand why more people don’t use them if they are house sparrow resistant. I can see where a bluebird can escape easier but like I’ve said it also ads more entryways for a HOSP. Kind of like a house with a front and back door. If you don’t want intruders you have to lock both. I don’t know of any other reasoning but I may try to do some googling later.
Then, I wonder how easy trapping with a Van Ert is? And would a 13 g. garbage bag fit around the two holed mansion? Those are my concerns.
Besides an extra hole for escaping, what do you like about it compared to one-holed boxes? I’ve never even actually seen one except online.Tammy
I’m trying the calcium too. The bluebirds aren’t really appreciating the calcium coated mealworms but I’m thinking I’ll use less and that might work.
Tammy
Doug, there probably aren’t any chicken people here. There’s no way your chicken can fit into the elevating arm area. The back door is for taking HOSP that you’ve trapped out and eliminating them. It should stay closed the entire time. If you have any other questions, just ask.
Tammy
I was going to say it was a male. I trap with a Van Ert on a walking trail. I just put the trap in and either wait in my car for awhile or go home and come back later to check it. I wait until the trail is pretty empty before removing it from the box. I’m not convinced that the two holed is better. In my line of thinking it also gives the HOSP more ways to enter. And one bluebird can’t protect both holes. Just my opinion, but I’ve never owned one.
