TimC,
I don’t normally post photos, but if you look under participant “ David in Stamford, Va” on April 25, 2023 he wrote a helpful post on how to post photos from your phone. Thank you David for doing the post, I saved it for next time I have a picture.Judy – Michigan
Hi Dana, thanks for suggesting feeding mealworms. I do feed live mealworms, but not close to the house. I have to look through binoculars to see them. Sounds like you may have them coming up close to your house. I would love to have them coming to the deck for a Birds eye view. I have them spoiled, LOL…..I have to take the worms to them.

How cool they show up and start building on your Birthday! Next year you will know they show up in your area around your birthday. Monitoring 18 bluebird boxes should be fun and keep you very busy. Lol……..a labor of love. Happy Birthday and happy birding.

Thanks Dana, Mama blue laid egg #2 today. Yesterday I put up the sparrow spooker, today I put on a wren guard. Those pesky wrens are in the area. I’m hoping they get busy with their own nests and leave other nesting birds alone. Grrrr.

May 16, 2023 at 9:58 pm in reply to: What’s the normal time after BB nest built until egg is laid #27237Special treat to have white eggs. I had them only once in 10 years. Glad you got that spooker up. Let the fun begin!

I know you have been waiting for awhile so happy you finally saw one today! Sounds promising that he has spotted one of your boxes, fingers crossed for you. Let the fun begin.

Good luck with those new eggs! It must be fun seeing the fledglings from the 1st brood. Mine seem to always stay hidden. When I do see one it’s a real treat. Happy birding.

Enjoyed reading your update for the season. You have a lot going on in your yard. Got a real chuckle out of your last line about the unwanted house wren. I had a pair here shopping boxes, I closed off the entrance for 2 days. They went on their way and I have not heard their annoying chatter since. Yay!

That has to be a nightmare having mama blue come up missing! So happy to hear the new lady blue is helping out with the family. I’m sure papa blue finding a new mate so quickly was a big relief.

So happy to hear a pair of blue finally showed up!!! Hopefully that 1st egg will appear soon. Answering your question on sparrow spookers, I always use one after the 1st egg. Have never had any trouble with HOSP with the spooker in place. I use it on tree swallow boxes too. It’s a great invention! Enjoy your blues.

Awww….they are much cuter at day 5 than day 1 or 2. They are filling out nicely. Thanks for sharing.

Oh no……wonder what happened to her. Putting extra food out should help a lot. Good luck with the babies.

I’m in Michigan …..for the last few years the bluebirds have been staying here year round. I have 2 pairs of bluebirds in my yard. One has a nest that had 5 eggs, but only one hatched. That baby will fledge in about a week. The other pair has claimed a box and are starting to build a nest.
Tree swallows showed up around March 28th. They are looking at boxes, but not building nests yet. Saw the 1st Baltimore oriole 4/30. Have not seen any hummingbirds or wrens yet.
It’s been super cold here. Looks like next week might warm up a little.
