@phillyblues – yea, this box is in full sun almost all day so I nailed a big square piece of wood to the top of the 4×4 the box is on. Shades it nearly all day and helps keep the rain off. They seem to like it too, they are there a lot hunting off the edges. Hoping they take advantage of the shade under it by standing on the nest box roof, the male has a couple times.
@julie – thanks and no prob. I got kinda lucky by fast snapping my camera.
I get it, and as I stated I was gonna move it and did. I monitored it until they were finished but basically did it just so they would notice them. Thanks for advice. Going to try the photo, I have a pretty cool one.
Not sure if I’m the Dave. No worries.
Haven’t had a problem with other birds but yeah I was going to move it tomorrow. I think they know I might have food now so it will be easier.
Does the BB female usually stay in the nest at night while she is laying the eggs?
The boxes aren’t too far apart actually, maybe 60-70ft. But there is a tree in-between them.
I’m 95% certain it’s the same bird. I read that they may do this, I think it’s rare tho.
Like I said, he only did it once and the female was standing on the top watching him.
I think he had some feathers that the female put in there. A little bit later I saw her fly to the ground and pick up what looked like the stuff in a cigarette filter (I think it was part of a dandelion or something) and take it to the box. -
