6?? That’s the most I ever seen. I’m sure they know what they are doing but I’m worried about the room. Going to be cramped.

Carol I’m sure they were come if you’ve have them before. Maybe something happened to the previous or they found a new house? If so, I’m sure some new one’s will come eventually. Good luck.

Thanks, enjoying this camera. She laid the 5th egg today. Hopefully that’s it, going to be a packed house.

Nice! They eat bird seed? I fed mine dried mealworms all winter. I’d soak them in water and sprinkle them with some calcium carbonate, they seem to really like it. So did the Yellow Warblers, Wrens, Blue Jays and Robins. I chased off the Starlings as much as I could. I tried to get them to eat some suet balls but they wouldn’t go for it, they’re picky.

I would say start with the live meal worms when they start feeding young. I usually just do around 5-6 worms per bird, including blue birds and hatchlings, in the morning only. I sprinkle calcium carbonate on them because mealworms are calcium deficient. During the summer they are more than capable of finding food on their own that has all the nutrients and water the hatchlings need, but I feel like giving them some mealworms in the morning helps them get some quick and easy food for the young and themselves after going all night without eating. It’s defiantly satisfying see them take it to the box.

I think I have the same pair from last year. I’ve been feeding them during the winter and they got an early start this year. I think they were new parents last year cause they didn’t even pick this box till almost May.

Yea I dunno what it’s all about. There are 4 in the box and they are definitely still in there, I hear ‘em. He’s doing a lot of feeding too, more than her. They haven’t really poked their heads out yet. My guess is they will fledge Wednesday, that will be 17 days. What they did last time and the weather has been pretty consistent. See if they can go for a third brood.

Hope they are doing good with the heat, Julie. Whatever works as a heat shield will do imo. They don’t care what it looks like. I have a big Tupperware lid I use for one. Works great. I use a lot of styrofoam I get from packaging.

Got a pic of them. Hard to tell if their mouths are open. I’m sure they are; it hit 100 degrees. They don’t look too uncomfortable and have been getting fed by adults all day.

I hear ya. It’s pretty much by itself I’m the middle of a field in my side yard. It’s closer to my house than the tree line you’re seeing. I’ve been here for 10 years and never had issues with snakes or cats. I’m in a pretty rural area. I was thinking about changing it or making some guard around the pole. Maybe I’m the fall. I’m way more concerned about the heat right now.

Hey Julie – thanks for the link. It kind of looks like the ash-throated flycatcher. Might be the one. I guess I was looking at the wrong bird before.

I’ve never seen it do this but it came right outside my door on my patio eating bugs. Got a couple decent shots. I think it might be the same female as prior pics but these are clearer.

Hey Julie – not sure it’s either of those birds. I got a few pics but he/she was mad and bouncing around yelling at me. Distance made it hard to get a clear one. The one pic from behind up close you can kinda see how the head is shaped like a phoebe. It’s a little smaller than it seemed before, I might have been seeing the bigger male. I’ll try to get a pic of him too.

It’s not a woodpecker and doesn’t have the markings a flicker does. I have, what I think are, black phoebe’s that hang out at my garden. It kinda looks like a big version of those and being a lighter brown top cream bottom. I’m not sure the hole they are in would be considered a cavity, it’s pretty big, so not sure they are strictly cavity dwellers or was just coincidence. I’ll have to try and get a pic.
