Yes, I would have to upload it. No, hemp shavings are great, super absorbent, great insulation and dust free.
Does your camera have sound? I caught a wren in there in the beginning of the season and I shouted at it through the cam. Seemed to work, for a while anyway. I still hear this one at the tree tops singing away almost all morning, but two eggs and so far so good.
Yea it’s a bummer right? This has been a rough season.
I made a wren guard but I don’t think I’m going to put it up. She just laid an egg this morning, see how it goes. Yesterday late afternoon it tried to go to the house and the male blue grabbed it and pinned it to the ground for a good 5-10 seconds. Hopefully he got the point. I have my blink motion detection on and ready to go and I have been keeping an eye out. They seem to hanging around the box more and she has actually been sitting in there on the egg a lot today. Which is weird cause there is only one egg. Anyway, fingers crossed.I keep answering my own posts haha. I’ve read about the wren guard, going to build one today. Hopefully she tries again tomorrow and I’ll put it up.
Anybody have experience with these? How good do they work? Bluebirds usually take to it?
I’ve seen some pretty good things about them online.
Pretty sure it’s a wren, just saw one fly out and the nest is a little messed up. I can’t find the egg anywhere though.
Any advice on what to do?
It was the worst last evening/night. Unhealthy status. The birds still come around, prob cause I feed them mealworms. They don’t see effected as far as I can tell. I just worry about their long term health. Seems like a lot of other birds, cardinals, chickadees, titmouse are not around. I saw one Cardinal yesterday I usually see a few. I think they might now areas with better air places. Like in thick trees and I have a creek around my house, they might go down around that. Thankfully the winds are changing today. It’s gone down quite a bit and is suppose to be even better in the green. Hoping this is the end of it, fingers crossed.
I was hoping that was true Judy, but it’s not seeming likely. It’s been over three weeks and all the young are still hanging around and not being chased off. The beakless one seems to be pretty healthy but I’m guessing it’s still being given food here and there. I don’t even want to give them mealworms anymore because I see it begging others for food or trying to steal it from the other young ones. Then when they all leave it sits there and pecks at the worms left, feel like it’s driving itself crazy. It’s been a rough season. Lost the female bluebird last brood and deformed beak hatchling. My tree swallow box lost a male also, now she’s trying to defend against another male and house sparrows. Trying to keep them out, it’s a full time job. It’s almost becoming a little too much, but I feel obligated to help them.

It’s hard to tell. Not super deep it seems. I did see her still working on the mold of the cup so I don’t think she is quite done yet. It does have the extra thick hole cover but I understand the predator concern. One good thing is the cup is offset towards the back of the box. There’s not much I can do so I guess I just have to monitor.
Thanks dude! Yea they are inseparable now. She sometimes gives the hatchlings some of my mealworms and sometimes she gobbles them down. But they should be getting out any day, hopefully today.
So couple days after losing his partner and singing his songs a female came along. It was a little iffy at first because she kept drawing him away and they were both in and out of another box in my neighbors yard. Fortunately my neighbor plugged up the hole and they lost interest. Although he was very interested in what she was doing, he still was feeding his young. At first she would just eat my mealworms and maybe go to the box and look in the hole. I was afraid she was going to harm them. Today I saw her grab a hornworm I left out and go to the hole with it, she tried several times to poke her head in but they wouldn’t take it so she ate it. Later I saw her on top of the box, drop down get a green worm and go right to the hole, go in and came out empty. She also took another bug in there, so I think she is helping some. She is also going in and just sitting in there with them, it’s weird honestly, but I think it’s all good. At least he found a mate. Hopefully they pick right up and continue their thing.
Unfortunately I’m thinking something happened to her. These two have been around awhile, I’m pretty sure it was the same pair from last year and all this winter. I saw her in the box that night and my girlfriend said she her the young chirping really early in the morning. Thinking she prob went out early in the morning and got taken by a hawk or maybe this huge crow that comes around. It’s heartbreaking. That day he went up to the top of this tree and was just chirping away. Probably calling for her. That’s life but it’s still sad to watching. Just going to give him extra meal and horn worms.

Not sure. I know she was in there last night and I came out at 7am. So it must have happened within a few hours.
I’ll have mealworms for him, and I just ordered a bunch of hornworms.
What a bummer. Poor girl.
It’s not hard at all, just trying to find the time saving and uploading everything. Designing takes some time too and can be frustrating. Just going to keep adding to it. I’m going to redo some of the videos with longer ones and some more variety of activity.
