Exactly. That is also why a spooker should never be used on a feeder. People have been known to do that.

Atlanta, GAEverybody remember that all birds are different but chances are good they will deal with it just fine if they have already dealt with a guard this season.
A spooker is an entirely different thing. The reason to wait for that is so the HOSP don’t get used to it and become unafraid.

Atlanta, GARandy, you’re right. When I have an experienced pair, I put the guard on as soon as it looks like the nest is complete. They already know what’s up with a guard and it doesn’t slow them down at all.

Atlanta, GAI once watched a female building in the rain. She would pluck brown pine straw off the trees instead of using what had already fallen. Her nest was dry as could be. You have to trust them because they do know what to do.

Atlanta, GA1.25 is fine for them. I don’t remember where you are so just assumed CACH. Usually a reducer is applied after the first egg but, given the competition for the box, I vote put it on now.
Eggs are hidden under the little blankie until incubation begins. Maybe there are some under there.

Atlanta, GAIf it was a very windy day the streamers might have scared them. On windy days the streamers should be let down one or two at a time to help them get used to it.
On fledge day the EABL adults get a little excited, along with all the other birds in the area.

Atlanta, GA1.25 is small enough to keep the EABL out and still admit the CACH. Please do it soon or the EABL will be able to take the box from them.
If you don’t have plastic, the cardboard should work for the time they are in there. Use four thumbtacks and you should be fine.
