I would do the same. Sorry for the late chime in. Only if I see the house sparrow on my box do I install it. I keep the screws in of course.

So excited I heard a bluebird or multiple this morning around my yard…for a good hour. Nothing landed on the box but singing in the trees. Hoping and praying that I get my first yard nesting!!! I did so much work to eliminate sparrows and starlings this year.
Yeah the photo is kinda washed out but the ribbon is reflective bird scaring tape.
I had to chase off a blue jay waiting for heads to pop out I assume.
Here’s my makeshift spooker.

Ok today is much (+20°) warmer and drier and mom and dad seemed busy feeding these tough little babies. I think they are tougher than Inthought. Panic over. Thanks all.
Thanks everyone. Just pray they make it to the morning. Supposed to warm up a bit.
Yeah thanks. I don’t want to handle them too much at this point. Just seeing if there was a quick fix sonce weather is supposed to get warmer tomorrow.
Can i stick hand warmers in there?
Yeah Carol it was heartbreaking getting that close and bam! Here’s the latest. Would this be a young couple if they only have 4?

Thanks for all the advice Carol. If this works I will be thrilled. Lost my babies to a sparrow last year the day they were fledging! One made it out but the rest perished…in my hands. We don’t have a lot of bluebirds around here yet but I aim to change that.

So gorgeous. I have seen a lot more reports of them this year. I heard one singing last week but he didn’t come to the feeder. They apparently love safflower seeds. I have oriole feeders all over and was fortunate to have a rare female stay all winter in my yard. But now nothing but catbirds and robins gobbling it all up. Good to know grosbeaks enjoy it too.

Great news! They accepted the spooker…..and we have BABIES!!
I’ll rry to get over there….I did dee the couple perched near the box on a tree a couple days after I installed it if that is any indication…but didn’t see if they went in.
Honestly not sure. I hope so. I didn’t know it was a high possibility they wouldn’t accept it. It isn’t in my yard so I guess they either did or didn’t. Hopefully I didn’t screw things up.
