I gave up on the swallows after almost 2 weeks of not seeing them….and then suddenly today they are back at the box! Hope they stick around this time. Now that the weather is warm in PA, perhaps they’re finally ready. If I can’t get bluebirds this is second best for me.
Beautiful! Lucky!
Oh well. I pulled the nest out and haven’t seen them in 2 days. I am hoping it’s because it has been pretty chilly? Hope they come back.
Thwy sure seem to be acting like they’re serious. They’ve been in and out since Friday morning and the male was fighting off another male one day. Oh well. We’ll see what happens.
Thanks…wasn’t sure because I know we’re supposed to clean out old nests every season. I wonder why they haven’t grassed and feathered the nest yet.
What state do you live in?
Do you ever use grape jelly? Do you leave out strong for their nest material?
I’m in PA too. Had successful nests 2 years in a row. This year I had a couple show up and select a box. Sadly I opened the box one day to find the female dead. No injury, just dead. Haven’t seen a bluebird since. So delressing.
Grrr. Still nothing. Please God? Exciting though in my yard a swallow pair has started a nest in my front yard. First time I ever got anything other than chickadees. Soooo excited. But I need my bluebirds back at the park!
I could hear one singing this evening. Hope we’re back in business soon.
Not sure. There’s a golf course on one side and a housing development on the other. I thought maybe disease or cold weather? So bummed. Haven’t seen any since.
No…no nest yet. She had a mate.
Last year I tried normal sized boxes with an extra hole in the side and still had a bluebird killed. They succeeded in a similar box on the same property. This year I made a bigger box. I think the size matters so that a bluebird can fully extend its wings inside. Less chance of getting trapped.

Darn it! Pretty sure the are abandoned at this point. I took a photo of the eggs a few days apart and they haven’t moved…not even a blade of grass is moved. So sad and disappointed. Anything I can do to salvage the eggs at this point or are they likely dead?
