That’s wonderful, Dana!! I bet by now more have figured it out. Is it close to your house where you can watch from you window? Mine is on the edge of my back porch. But right now, when there’s no bully birds that are competing for the mealworms I just throw them out my sliding glass door on the ground and my blues come and get them.
Tammy
Dana. They will eventually figure it out. I’m sure if it! Once one figures it out the others will follow. You could open the top so they can get in that way to help them out but even without doing that they’ll figure it out. Sprinkle some outside the dish near the openings to entice them more.
Tammy
If you aren’t feeding them, they probably won’t keep appearing even if they are in the area. Is keep feeding them if I were you. I’ll get mealworms when I get back. They did fine with the suet. Almost makes me want to forget buying mealworms and stay with the suet.

What exactly am i seeing…its hard to tell. I see a cage with some pigeons? Maybe if I got on my PC instead of my tablet I could tell.
Tammy
Yay! I’m seeing mine too. I’m leaving for 4 weeks and I feel so bad because mine are coming and begging for suet every day. But usually they show up when I get home from a trip. I wish I had a neighbor I felt comfortable asking to feed them daily.
Tammy
Mine are back now. And they’ll be here for the remainder of the winter. I love winter with my bluebird.
Tammy
Cool blog. That seems way too much work for me. Are you thinking of putting one up?
Tammy
It is kind of sad. Summers ending and my bluebirds are scarce and my martins have made their long trip back home. Quiet here now.
Tammy
Hey,Walt. I’m glad you finally were able to get on here. I hope you have some feedback The Forum is kind of slow this month. It’s busier during Bluebird season.
Tammy
Mine usually come back and eat mealworms after a week or so but then I never see them again. The only ones I see regularly are the last nesting babies. Unlike Dave K. who has all his offspring stopping in!

Here’s a link that show’s you how to make a Krueger Trap. Martin landlords down south almost have to use them because of rat snakes. http://www.purplemartin.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27233&hilit=double+layer+net+trap

I lost track mid summer too and saw a full clutch of eggs…never knew she started a new nest until then. I say I’m going to keep up with my bird notes but some how I always let the ball drop.
Tammy
Hi, Countrygirl. Love seeing you here again. You were from Ontario, right? Where are you moving? TRES….I have too many of them. If I put up more boxes they would take them all! So I know what you mean. I like them but sometimes get annoyed that bluebirds can’t take any boxes while they are here, unless they grab them before the TRES come.
Tammy
Congrats. I have never had blowfly larvae in my boxes. Weird, huh?
Tammy
I agree!! definitely.
