Yikes on your drive on the Mackinaw Bridge. I’m in the Toledo area. You might have driven not that far from my house.

I didn’t even notice. Spell check often puts the wrong word in for me. Or I just forget to proofread what I wrote.

Roger. Sometime your local Wild Birds Unlimited have those traps. Or…Amazon sells them for about $10 more than the owners do but sometimes you can get next day shipping if you have Amazon Prime. I use my Mom’s account when I’m desperate.
Tammy
I wish I lived nearby. I’d give you one of mine to use. Just let them build…even if you had the trap right now it might be good to let them build a little. Or figure out a homemade trap. Let me think about it. Do you have a second box up in your yard?
This is a homemade trap for a purple martin gourd. Can you figure out a way to do this for a nestbox and make it work? I think you’d have to pull it taut as soon as you pull itl It seems like it would slip down if you didn’t.

Maybe it was Imgur.com that I was using because I do have an account. I just don’t use it enough to remember. But you can’t share videos that way, can you?
Tammy
I’m testing something here.
Tammy
You have to use a photo sharing app to add photos. I’m not sure how videos would work. There’s direction under “Posting Tips for The New Bluebird Nut Cafe” section. But photobucket doesn’t work anymore.

A repeating trap is awesome too!! We can all give you ideas on using both of these. Put Van Ert sized screws in all your boxes when it comes. I think it only comes with one set of screws so you might need to buy extra for other boxes.
Tammy
I’m shocked but so glad for you! When I have a wren attack they do it until all the eggs are gone. So relieved for you!
Tammy
Wow…you are quite creative with those bird fountains. You have to plug those in somewhere though don’t you. (Can you tell I’m not mechanical? LOL)
I have less and less TRES (Tree Swallows) every year!Tammy
Congrats! House Sparrow control does pay off!!
Tammy
Don’t know much about it. I know my daughter has her yard sprayed because mosquitoes are horrendous and she has nesting birds very successfully. I don’t know if it is a different spray than normally or not.???
Tammy
Roger. Buy a Van Ert at https://vanerttraps.com/.
Tammy
Hey, Roger. I don’t even know if that exists anymore (HOSP control forum). We can talk about it here. The only thing we can’t talk about (per Cher’s request) is how to euthanize them. I can help you with that topic via message here or maybe by email or even texting.
The best way to capture House Sparrows is purchasing a Van Ert trap that goes into your box.
Put up extra boxes in your yard so that hopefully the House Sparrow takes one that the bluebirds haven’t started nesting in. You have each of your boxes prepared with screws in them so that no matter what box the House Sparrow takes, you’ll be ready. You let the House Sparrow pair build a nest a little and then you insert the trap.
Do you have eggs in the box yet? As soon as you have eggs you put up a Sparrow Spooker. That will help keep the House Sparrows from taking over the housing. It isn’t foolproof but it helps a lot. If you don’t know much about the Van Ert trap or the Spooker I can let you know moreTammy
@ David. I have the same problem with the streamers too. All the time! Good idea for putting weight at the bottom. Maybe even paperclips would work at the bottom? Just a random thought.
@ Tim Neat that you did a presentation and are helping a group of people!!
I’m big into Purple Martins. If you are on FB there’s a group called Purple Martin Fanatics that is really helpful. I have a small colony for the last 17 or so years. I really don’t want to add more. I like to keep it simple. I probably have about 20+ martins right now. But am having terrible HOSP and starling problems this year. Usually the Starling can’t get into my Starling Resistant Entrance Holes but this year I’ve fought with two pair.Grrr.Tammy
