Mine have completed their nest but no egg yet. I looked and last year march 5th was the first egg.

Thanks Connie! My new feeder post came so I finally have a day off to put it out closer to the golf course and see if they will come to it in an open area. I miss seeing the babies try to figure out the feeder cage. But what a beautiful sight to see them all out there on the golf course!

Connie, I think I have it figured out. My house backs up to the golf course but there is kind of a bunker so I don’t see it directly. I got out there on the golf course with my binoculars and saw more than I could could count, at least a dozen blues, out this evening around 6 scarfing up bugs from the short part of the grass. Don’t know what it’s called, LOL. Then several playing in the sand trap. It was incredible seeing how many blues there were!!! I realized that my yard has gotten very overgrown and bushy and there are feral cats and mockingbirds. Out there they were totally safe with a ginormous treeless area to eat to their heart’s content.
Finally I am not worried about those babies! They are HUGE and having fun. And I really need to get to work cutting back shrubs for next year.
Thank God they are alive and happy. Their parents probably knew not to bring them to the mealworm feeder.
They are so smart that when a golf cart came by they headed for the trees.
Thanks for listening to my worries. When they were born and first fledged my mealworm feeder emptied in minutes. I’m happy they are out there scavenging on their own, but must admit I miss seeing them!

Thanks Connie! I really think something scared them from that feeder. New pole should arrive tomorrow and I will put it closer to the golf course. I miss seeing my babies! I just can’t imagine something happened to all 15 and I think the last brood that fledged on July 18th are too young to have flown far away! My neighbor 2 doors down has a lawn like a bowling alley and they started taking the babies there last year so hoping that’s where they are hidden away!

I woke up early this morning and watched and waited and though they didn’t go to the feeder I saw many blues diving for bugs on the golf course. I have terrible eyesight but their flight is so distinct that I feel sure it was them. I really wish I had another pole to hang my feeder from. Might have to get on Amazon…

I’m the eternal optimist so I would leave mine up. Mine have always kept trying…

I was looking forward to a few more weeks of bluebird joy before the hummers arrive.

                    Thanks Connie…
Some worms missing today but got home from work and put out a fresh handful and not a bluebird in sight. I feel like crying. I cant imagine what could have happened to all 15 blues :(
                    Praying they are somehow OK.

Other possibility is that there is a snake in the tree the feeder is hanging from. I looked really closely but they are masters of camouflage.

Tempted to move my feeder closer to where they fledged to.

I can’t help but be worried though. I do think I hear the babies next door in the trees. It’s just that this is usually prime mealworm eating time and I’ve never had leftovers. Praying my little family is safe!

I haven’t seen the whole brood but I saw a really bully Mockingbird chase one of the blues from the mealworm feeder. Maybe they just decided it’s not worth it? Fingers crossed that they are OK :(

I am so mystified. My four fledged on the 18th and went next door. For the past 2 days no action at the mealworm feeder. I prayer nothing has happened to my sweet brood. Off all day tomorrow so I hope I can get a good view of what the heck is going on. trying to tell myself that there are many bugs out there that they aren’t interested in mealworms but that goes against everything I’ve ever witnessed.

I think we get lucky down here because they get an early start and 4 broods is not unusual. The weather here the past 2 years has been much cooler than the North. No sign of new nest yet but they just fledged the 18th. I have a feeling though that we will see one more brood.

Or you could do a Kreuger trap on the ground if there is not a nearby fence. My cats loved helping me make mine. What a mess. Mesh everywhere. I am not very handy so mine looks kind of crazy but no snake attacks in 2 years. Haven’t caught a snake, either though. So who knows?
