Thank you Carol! It may be too late in the season here but I’m going to try.
No advice but I feel your pain. My bluebird pair had a nearly finished nest before the HOSP got it. I’m so sad!
My lot is 300 feet. I wonder if I should go and get another box.
Spooker I mean!
My turn-around was literally a day last nesting. I remember thinking that I was crazy for not cleaning the box well. Alas, I think we are done now. Three broods of five is nothing to be sad about but I will miss them terribly!
I’ve fledged 15 this year! I love seeing the blue neighborhood also!
Mine fledged during Tropical Storm/Hurricane Barry today! They were 18 days old so it wasn’t premature but I thought for sure they would stay hunkered down during the torrential rains. All 5 out. 15 this year. It’s been a perfect season!
Congrats! I’m hoping my 3rd nest survives the heat, so far so good.
Mine waited ONE day before nest building this year after the last fledge. Insane.
I also have a box that turns freely but it makes me nervous when severe weather is headed our way.I am so sorry. Snakes, Howr, HOSP, they all make me furious. :(
I should have mine up and I confess that I don’t. It’s been in the 90’s and they are 10 days old today. Feeding lots of mealworms for hydration but getting home in the dark and haven’t done it. Shame on me. The box is super active with feeding so I think they are faring well.
Mine started building the day after fledge. I thought I was nuts and didn’t take all of the pine straw out but by day 3 there was a complete nest. Of course if there were wrens around I would have done the same thing. They have 5 babies now which will be their 3rd nest of 5 this year if all goes well.
You nailed the hatch date David. I can see 4 babies so far. Don’t know if that 5th egg is hidden in the pigpile or didn’t hatch.
Thanks! I am totally shocked now because there were 4 eggs for 2 days and now 5? Strange to skip 2 days in warm weather and my calculations are all over the place…It’s late here for a 5 egg nest. We shall see. It would be amazing to fledge 15 in one year.
Four eggs this time. They must be planning for the heat!
