I am so sorry! It is such a heartbreak when things go wrong. I think I’ve had everything but HOSP. It hurts.
Crazy fast! It is getting hot really early. Time to get the styrofoam out!
So my second nest of 5 fledged this week and I cleaned out the box that night and left the door open to air out. The next morning there was pine straw in it and I thought I was crazy for not getting it all out. I closed the door after removing the pine straw and by day 2 a whole new nest is here with an egg in it. I have never seen anything like this! This is one prolific pair! So 10 already fledged and now to worry about the heat!
Second brood. 2 eggs so far. Yay!
Second nest looks complete! Glad everyone is off to a good start…
The nest mine just fledged from was fairly sparse as well but did the trick.
I take photos pretty much every day until close to fledge. All 5 made it out successfully and I cleaned out the box tonight. A GREAT start! Yay!
I wish I was smart enough to do photos… they are cuties!
Mine are looking great and already with feather nubs. I never have all 5 hatch but they look great…
All 5 still look amazing! Yay!
Hi Connie! All 5 hatched! Saw them first on Saturday and they looked a day or too old. Saturday was chilly and rainy and I worried about them all day but somehow they made it because parents are still going in and out.
We have been nice and warm. They should have hatched today but I was too busy with work to check. Excited to go out in the morning and see babies! Fingers crossed!
I’m in coastal Alabama….I just wonder where they go in the winter????
5 eggs as of Friday! They start early here but never overwinter. It’s strange!
I never see my blues in the winter in coastal Alabama. It’s as though they migrate north in the winter!
I do have 5 shiny blue eggs as of March 15 so we are off to a good start.
Mine reliably leave for the winter and magically reappear in February. Now that I’m logging I can see how close to the date they return every year. It’s uncanny how they come within 1 or 2 days of the prior year. -
