What a nice surprise after being away. I would put the sparrow spooker up pronto. Keep your eye on the nest to make sure they will accept it. You can clip some of the ribbons together to make it less scary, then after they have accepted, release. Good luck.

Connie..that’s very interesting. It’s good you have been watching her build the nest, if not you might have cleaned the sticks out thinking it was a wren starter nest. She is determined, finding whatever will work……just get-er-done.

What a welcome sight‼️ It’s just the best when you get to see the fledglings come back. Yours fledged the day before mine…..so, maybe I will get a peek of my group tomorrow. My mama of that group has started her 2nd nest. Looks like it could be ready for the first egg. Wrens are back…..I have two boxes up for them to fill and keep them away from the boxes with eggs. Sneaky rascals need to stay busy. Enjoy those babies‼️

Nice picture….looks like all 5 hatched. Congratulations‼️

Connie… good news about nest building. I think your pair decided to hold off for better weather. So, when you removed the insulation from the sides they thought “yup it’s time”…lol. It should be clear sailing for them now.

Well today is egg #6. The attached photo shows egg #1 still under all the other eggs. I think this is going to be one of those eggs you find in the bottom of the nest when cleaning it out. We’ll see what happens….I’m starting to think mama blue pushed it down intentionally. Who knows, maybe egg #1 was not hers. She started incubating today.

So cool you have the male red-breasted grosbeak visiting…..especially when it’s a rare occasion in your area. We do see them around here, they like to eat the grape jelly along with the Baltimore Orioles. Beautiful bird….love the red chest.

That’s terrific news……a sparrow spooker is one of the best tools to detour sparrows. Yay‼️

Today is egg #5. Attached photo shows egg #1 is now under the others. I was hoping that mama blue would have fixed it by now. Does she not turn the eggs until she starts incubating? Waiting patiently…..hope she fixes weak spot in the nest.

David, thanks for clearing that up….lol, I thought you had a nest of six. Maybe in the next nest.
I agree with your assessment of the nest having a weak spot. I was hoping mama blue would be able to fix it. I’m going to keep my eye on it.

Good news David. It is so fun to see the fledglings out and about for the first time. I have in the past found an egg in the bottom of the nest, always wondered if it was intentional or by accident.

Carol, thanks for checking with Bet Zimmerman Smith. Sounds like it was maybe a dumped egg. Much better than a cowbird dumped egg. Have not noticed anything strange around the nest. All is well, egg #4 today.
I’m attaching a photo of the nest. Egg #1 looks like it is getting pushed down into the nest. Will mama blue fix it when she is turning the eggs?
Wow David…..you finally got 6 eggs‼️ Must be those super mealworms from your worm farm. Congratulations.

Thanks Carol, It will be interesting to see if she has ever heard of this. Maybe it’s something like twins in the bird world.

Chris, so sorry this happened…..it’s a birdwatcher’s nightmare‼️ I hope they build again in the safe box you have ready for them. It’s a good sign they still came for the mealworm treat. Best wishes.

Hope things workout this time Rich. With the weather warming up it will be better for the eggs and hatchlings. Best wishes‼️
