Good news Carol‼️ Mine stayed in the nest until yesterday afternoon….18 days. All five fledged. Have not seen where they are, but Mom and Pop are still hanging out in the front yard.
Because it’s been so cold here I have been feeding live mealworms 3 times a day. Do you feed only twice daily?
My bluebirds in the backyard started building their 2nd nest yesterday…..5 days after their 2 hatchlings fledged. Got to see both fledglings today in the serviceberry tree. What great fun 😁

Phillyblues…….sounds like a great idea to me‼️ There are so many folks that purchase bluebird boxes and are happy to have any bird including House Sparrows build a nest. Grrrr.

Yay….Congratulations Connie. I think you are the first report of blues fledging this season. Hope you get to see them flying around your yard soon.

Dana……Glad to hear your bluebirds are doing well. I have a nest that hatched the same day. They are growing fast. We’ll see if they fledge the same day.

Matt, so sorry this happened. Hope your blues build another nest and have a successful brood.

Sorry to hear about your unhatched eggs……still hoping for the best. You never know sometimes these bluebirds really surprise us.
Best wishes,
Judy – MichiganThanks for posting your nest pictures……they are so much cuter at this stage than when first hatched. They grow and change so much from day to day. Congratulations and Happy Birding.

Carol…..this is my favorite tool‼️ Works like a charm. My two sets of bluebirds will set on top of the spooker and use it for a lookout.
Still chilly here, but all the babies have their feathers, so I don’t worry about the freezing nights. My 1st 2 hatchlings might fledge tomorrow. Hope to see them around the yard soon. The other 5 expected to fledge 5/11. Off to a great start this season.
Feeding live mealworms has made a huge difference in the bluebird activity in my yard. Fed live from spring until fall then switched to dried. This was the first time they have stayed all winter. Great to have them here year round.

Your yard sounds amazing. Always enjoy your updates. Super fun watching all the wildlife from afar. Saw the first ruby-throated hummingbird yesterday. Baltimore Orioles should be showing up today or tomorrow. I have their jelly out waiting for their arrival. Happy Spring.

Awww….what a beautiful sight‼️ Now you will have a few more mouths to feed with your over load of live mealworms. Enjoy ….and keep the photos coming.

Congratulations Carol……waiting to hear about the other two eggs. Glad you caught that rascal house sparrow, in record time. I was trying to trap a pair of HOSP, both on top of the house. Trap was set for 5 hours and they never went in.

Connie…..great pictures‼️ Glad you were able to figure it out, I wish it was a little easier to do. I enjoy seeing all the pictures people post.
You have a beautiful full nest of baby blues. So happy for you.

Ok…my first nest with freezing nights ended up with a total of 4 eggs. The 2 eggs that were in the nest with 2 nights of low 20 degrees did not hatch. The other 2 eggs hatched and are doing well. Yay‼️
The second nest had 5 eggs….today is hatch day….4 have hatched so far. Hoping to see all 5 tomorrow. This nest had some freezing nights, but temps not as low as nest #1 had.
I’ve never had nests this early, so happy they are surviving. Maybe this is the year for
3 broods from each pair. We’ll see.Judy – Michigan
Carol….I also have a nest with 5 eggs due to hatch tomorrow (Friday). I think everything will be fine ….both of my mamas are very good about staying on the nest. I will report back tomorrow evening on how both nests are doing. Hope this is Mother Nature’s last fling for this Spring. I think last year we had freezing temperatures until the middle of May.
Good Luck,
Judy – MichiganUpdate on this nest. Total of 4 eggs laid. As of Monday 2 eggs hatched, 1 egg unhatched and I couldn’t see if the other egg was under the hatchlings or if they were on top of a hatchling. Super happy to see at least 2 hatched. I can’t check the nest until it warms up to see for sure how many hatchlings are in there. Tonight is the second night of freezing temperatures. Feeding extra live mealworms…..not many bugs out in the snow and cold weather. Put wool socks under the nesting box for insulation and west side of box has an insulation shield for wind. Also the wren guard helps keep the wind from blowing into the front hole. Hoping for the best.
