Sorry mis-type we have 5 eggs now – we also had 5 the batch last month, so total of 10 this year. We will take down till cooler next Spring, much too hot here even in the shade (humidity.
They ALL must have made it during our storm as the box was empty after I was able to go check there to see. I also checked all over the yard and seen nothing out of order so they All must have done ok.
NOW the Mom and Dad are doing it AGAIN
Building another nest going in and out like crazy today and here is a video I took today called.
“Nest Building with Female RED BIRD checking it all out” If you would like to see it.

Lisa,
Thinking about you and ^j^ Hoping All went well with your Sheepdog today ^j^.
DeneThe babies are now peeking out of the box opening off and on with a lot of rocking going on with the house.
Mom and Dad are still coming and going with food and removal duty so I think it may be another day or 2 before they fledge.
We have bad storm warnings coming in on Tues night and Wednesday and I hope they don’t try to fledge during that time.
Couldn’t get a shot of the babies with heads peeking so took a couple of Dad and Mom just a few min ago. Dad this year is the prettiest of blue color I have seen yet and Mom looks pretty also.

I have used an umbrella ever since it got hot and the blues don’t mind it at all? I did put it up though before they laid any eggs but noticed them building a nest and just kept it up on and off, but all the time once the nest was finished when the sun was shinning all day because I know Texas gets just a touch toooooooooooooooooooo hot! I do take it down at night just before dark and back up in the mornings we now have this last batch 2 hatched and 2 not yet and reaching well over the records of heat this year (high 90’s with up to 110 heat index every day and usually full sun) so hoping they can all make it being the hottest part of the summer yet to come to Texas before they fledge.
I sure hope yours make it Susan and will be watching to see how you also fair. God Bless ^j^After my 1st bunch (4) hatched this year another female along with the original Mom and Dad was feeding the baby’s. This was my 1st time having Bluebirds and I don’t know where the other female came from, maybe an earlier baby hatched somewhere else? I called her a wanna-be Mom.
I live in Texas over 100 heat index each day and high 90’s except when raining and we use an umbrella, I take it down every evening when the sun moves low and put up every morning. The shade knocks off about 10 degrees and the male will sit under it on the top of the box a lot during the day in the shade of it. Others have used foam from Home Depot that there are directions for how to use it if you do a look around you will find it.
Yep we have another egg!
We started out with Martin’s an quit because of the Sparrows so many and awful birds they killed 9 of the Martin eggs one year so we finally quit then we moved a few years later and I thought the Blues would be easier because not so high up. Well we have no sparrows so far (Knock on wood) but we lost the second bunch as they did not hatch, and I had no clue that the blues had more than one bunch, the Martins don’t, and I thought only sparrow’s had more. Well we have learned a lot now and thinking when we retire we may do both and hope for the best because the one’s that are native are all having a hard time now days with the birds brought here from other countries and someone has to help keep them here or they will all be gone because of the other birds taking over.
I now have 1 egg maybe 2 haven’t checked yet today. They are still coming and going so far.
Here is an old photo of my contraption. Though we don’t seem to have any snakes and I have no clue if this works or not, but we have had a possum that has come here and I also think it has been back but not sure, any way have had nothing in the bird house except the Blue Birds and the contraption is still there, it also has some re-barb sticking up in it and I think the pole we used may also have helped keep anything from trying to climb up that would try?Hugs Sassy,
I believe we may have as many ^j^ bird baby’s in the world as we do human ^j^ baby’s and they are all watching us and we will see them all again.“NEWS”
I have never put the umbrella back up all week and Female and Male have been in and out all week, But Female has not been sitting in the house for hours like before. And the NEWS IS – Today was going to weed eat around the pole and remove the contraption that was placed around the bottom so snakes etc. couldn’t crawl up the pole. I decided to have a look inside to see if the birds were still checking on the eggs that never hatched and to my surprise the eggs are gone or under the new nest they have put in the box on top of them? , so now leaving the pole bottom alone and going to check every day to see if they lay more eggs again? My question being should I put the umbrella back up and down every day again or wait and see if she lays more eggs?-

Texas just North of Houston.
Both birds still coming and going mostly the male now? Heat still in the high 90’s with Heat Index over 105.
I quit putting up the Umbrella but leaving the box alone till they quit coming?? if ever?PS Mom bird (I think it is the original Mom?) just keeps checking every once in a while and not spending hours in the box anymore.
