Correction Judy, there are 4 eggs in the nest. I was shocked to see this just a little while ago.
It is wonderful, so glad I did not give up and take the boxes down after my bad experiences the last two years. It pays to hang in there and see what Mother Nature throws at you.

Just to add on, you could have knocked my socks off about 10 minutes ago, I went out to check the nest, something I have not done since the 3rd egg was laid and Mama seemed to be incubating them. There was a new egg, so looks like this go round is going to be 4 new blues unless she surprises me again, which I highly doubt. I told my husband I think she likes even numbers :birddance:

          Hi Mspatt:
Never give up hope, that is one thing I have learned from this group when it comes to our beloved Blues. I hope that Papa finds another mate and you get to have a successful nesting before the cold weather sets in, but we still have a while before that happens. Good Luck.

Hi Countrygirl: Congrats on your TRES hatch. I have never had them nest here. I have seen them down the road by the farm, or at least I think that is what they are. We have barn swallows down there but these had blue on them so I take it that is what they were. This year I had success with the BB’s, 6 hatched and Mama built another nest and is now incubating 3 eggs this go round.
            Glad to meet you.

Hi Judy, thank you. I am hoping the youngsters hang around too for the next batch of babies and I get to see them feed them. So far they have been here every day. Of course Mama is busy incubating, and Papa seems to be keeping his eye on his off spring at this time. I did not see the little ones at the bird bath till they had been out of the nest for about 2 weeks, but now I see them almost every day drinking and dunking. Hope you get to see the same.

agp, I never get notifications either. I used to but them they just stopped for no apparent reason.

Lisa I hope you are right and the fourth go round starts soon. I don’t think we would ever see that many up here, but I will happily settle for 2. I checked today and the second egg is in the nest. :dancing:

:flippingblue: because today the first egg was laid so things are looking good for this second go round. I am anxious to see how many eggs there will be.

Mine seemed to hang out close to home, but they are 2 weeks out of the box now and mainly feed themselves, even though I have seen them beg every now and then and make those little chirping sounds. I have seen them come down to the birdbath and take a bath too, 4 at a time. So cute to watch them, then Mama and Papa will bath also. First year I have had the opportunity to enjoy all these things, so I am taking it all in.

It is amazing Lisa how much hot weather the birds can take. I know we do not get as hot as you do there in Alabama as a rule, but it did get quite toasty and humid up here in PA while those little ones were in the box, but nature sorta takes care of itself. Maybe by the time she builds and lays new eggs it will have cooled down considerably.
I will keep an eye on here for news of a fourth go round.

Hi Judy, I hope you get a second nesting too. My babies are 2 weeks old now and the new nest is built, but nothing in it as of yesterday. I will check again today, since the babies all seem capable of taking care of themselves now, Mama might get down to business. Papa keeps looking in the box from time to time, I guess he thinks Mama should be busy with his new brood too.

agp, I have read putting barbed wire around the bottom of the post deters snakes. I have no experience with trying that but it is a thought, and maybe worth looking into.

Sorry agp for your loss. I would tend to think snake also but I have not had any experience with that happening. I hope the BB’s start another nest and family for you soon.

Oh boy Lisa I was so hoping you would get to see the fledge. Maybe this is their way of keeping you interested in them for years to come. I am feeling for you but I agree you got 13 new Blues out flying around, and that is sensational.
