Hi Tammy:
I do have water near by, a river down over the hill side and my own water fountains and birdbaths. I have had chickadees in another box and wrens in others on the property, but so far no Tree Swallows. Of course my heart is set on bluebirds but I will have to settle for what decides to take up residence. I hope at least one box get the BB’s.
ConnieHi Randy:
Thank you also for the welcome. Like I told Tammy, I guess I am just overly anxious to see them return. I thought I might be on the lookout too early until I saw the pair a few weeks ago during one of our warm spells and a few flying down at the farm about a mile from our house, then the bitterly cold returned and nothing since.
I will have my husband move one of the boxes and I am green with envy that you have them around all winter long. We have had robins but I have never seen a bluebird during the winter months, maybe that will happen here too since I have boxes now. Keeping my fingers crossed. Hope you are getting some rest now and that the party birds have settled down.Connie
Hi Tammy:
Thank you for the welcome. I guess I am just overly anxious to see those beauties return. I know the ones I had last year were not here in March, but then I did not have a box up till later. In fact there were 4 eggs and all hatched, and then Mama disappeared and Papa took care of them all by his lonesome, he was one busy guy. I saw one fledge on June 30, and since we had to leave for company arriving at our cabin, I never did see the others fledge :-( but when I returned they were all gone. My boxes are no where near 300 feet apart, so maybe I better get my husband to move the second one. It is more like 75 feet from the original on an acre of land, but I wanted to be able to sit on my patio and watch them both, guess I will have to ditch that plan.
ConnieHello Fellow Bluebird Lovers:
My name is Connie (Sassy42) and I live in Western Pennsylvania. My husband put up my first bluebird box last spring and I was lucky enough to get a pair of bluebird. I spent hours watching them and learned some amazing things. I am so looking forward to them returning and along with my first bluebird house, we have now added another and hopefully there will be two pair sharing their time with us. I saw a pair a few weeks ago, and the male checked out the newest box, the female was in a tree, he ate a couple mealworms and moved on. I have not seen one since. I am keeping my fingers crossed that now that it is warming up I may get my renters back. Have any of you in my neck of the woods seen or managed to get a nesting pair yet?
