Tammy:
I only get them if I started the thread or commented on someone else’s. If you or any of the other members post something I have to go to the group to read it.
ConnieHi Tammy:
When I check that option, I do get emails with responses from any of the members that responded to me.
ConnieDlibby:
Such wonderful news. I am so happy for you. Last year my female disappeared after the hatching and papa took care of the babies all by himself until they fledged. What a trooper he was.
Connie (PA)Oh wow, those 5 babies look great to me. Hope I can match that soon
Connie (PA)Hi Gin:
I had dees in a box that was intended for smaller birds, but they either all fledged or that nasty HOWR got to them.
I covered all the entrances to all the boxes but the one that had the dees. At this point I am assuming the dees are gone, since I have not seen any activity there for a few days. Today I saw a beautiful BB land on the top of the BB house twice but there was no way he could try to take up residence. I have not seen the HOWR today at all. I am hoping I have solved that problem and that another or the same BB returns. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks,
ConnieHi Gin:
Thanks for getting back to me so soon. I will take your advice and plug the holes in all the boxes I have, BB and otherwise except the one that has Chickadees in it.
I hope this helps and maybe a pair of BB will take up residence after I succeed and at getting rid of HOWR.
Connie
Clarion, PADeb, that is wonderful news. I have not seen a single bluebird in a couple months, but I am happy for you. Keep us posted on how things go.
ConnieI feel so sorry for you Deb. I hope papa finds a new mate and you get to enjoy watching a new couple bring a new family to the blue bird lovers everywhere. Removing the old nest and the eggs was the best thing to do. Keep us posted on how things go.
ConnieI am on FB.
Such sad news. I hope you get another nesting pair soon.
Connie in PAGreat news Randy, nothing here in Western PA yet. Congrats to you.
ConnieHi Dibby:
I am fairly new here too, and had my first nest box and first pair of BB’s this past summer. Only one brood, but after the first ones hatched Mama BB disappeared, and Papa worked his feathers to a frazzle feeding his babies and all 4 fledged right before the 4th of July. We had to leave to go to our cabin, company coming so I never got to see what happened to them after that.
I had a pair show up over a month ago here in Western PA. He checked out the one box, ate a few mealworms and away they went. I have not seen a single BB around the boxes since. Maybe they flew off to Maine. I am happy for you and keep my fingers crossed that there is still time for them so show up in my neck of the woods.
Welcome to the group.
Connie (Sassy)Hi Mel:
I am fairly new here too. So far I have no BB’s in either one of my boxes, but I am not giving up hope. We are finally getting some warm Spring weather so that may encourage them to come to this part of PA. I saw a pair and a few strays back some time ago, but they disappeared, maybe just too cold around here at that time.
Poor Papa BB thinks another male is horning in on his territory. I think it is hard to discourage that kind of activity unless you can block his view of himself, but I am not sure about that either.
Sounds like you have a nice array of birds where you live now. We have quite a few here, chickadee’s cardinals, doves, blue jays, titmouse, nuthatches, wrens, finches, and lots of Hummingbirds, which will be showing up the end of this month or beginning of next, and other species too. I have never seen a purple martin though.
Keep us informed about how things go with Papa BB, and welcome to the group.
ConnieHi Randy:
I can understand your grumpiness, but at least you have one pair that seems to be hanging in there. Maybe the others will return when the weather improves. It has been pretty miserable here too, we had a terrific thunder/lightening storm Thursday evening and it has been pretty chilly and overcast. Maybe that is the same storm that is hitting your area now, only in the white form. We are still dropping down into the 30’s at night. I am hoping that our BB’s show up soon.
Glad to hear the woodpeckers are behaving themselves.
ConnieHi Randy:
I know everyone that loves these birds and looks forward to them taking up residence in their back yard or along the trail they are monitoring are anxious to see them return.
Glad you got those loud red bellied tenants to re-read the rules and they have stepped into line. Peace again on the home front.
