I am so,so sorry! When I lose my bluebird babies it really hurts. So happy one made it! I believe he will grow up to be very strong and special….
You would think mine would overwinter in nice warm bug ridden South Alabama but they are always gone by June!
This is really a miracle. 10 day forecast all in the 80’s! Normal here in august is upper 90’s every day. So lucky! Now if I just can stay free of snakes, raccoons, and all other badness we should be OK!
Mine are usually 17 days! I keep forgetting that you are in the Northwest because your heat is unheard of! I grew up in the PNW and never remember heat like that!
I can’t wait to try this! Mine have never overwintered with me, but being such an odd year maybe I have a chance!
I’m happy with the year I had despite losing my first nest of five. Fledged 4, then 3, now have another 3 6 days old. Fingers crossed for the last 3. Had an unhatched egg in the last and this nest.
My last brood somehow survived a tropical storm. I was terrified for them but they miraculously made it out healthy and none the worse. I don’t know how they found food in all of the torrential rains. They are tougher than we can imagine sometimes!
One night I went out in the dark pouring rain and mama was sitting under the house on the snake trap. We were both shocked to see each other!I shoo away the HOWR every chance I get! They actually roll around in the worm feeder bowl. One look at that upturned tail and I am a crazy woman trying to scare them. LOL.
I hate House Wrens with a red hot passion after they destroyed my first nest and still steal my mealworms. And still haven’t found their darn nest!
The only competition I have in the cage feeder are house wrens. It’s comical to watch the others try to get in though.
For me, the third try was always the charm. I hope this holds true for you!
Oh my gosh. Praying that you see some tomorrow! The problem is that you can’t know when incubation starts :(
I would be crying if I had a house wren nest. You are a WAY better person than I am!
Still keeping fingers and toes crossed for yours. You should be out of the woods!
I recommend LOTS of live mealworms at this point. For moisture.
You only have 2 days for fledge. The weather is cooler. You’ve got this!Keep us posted!! Mine don’t usually hatch right on schedule but my current bunch hatched on day 14 so mama must have started incubating the day the last one was laid!
My papa is a huge contender too!
He is gorgeous but it took him forever to find a mate. He would stand on the fence wagging worms for weeks.
Once he found his bride, he has treated her like a queen.
He takes amazing care of the babies after they fledge.
He brings her worms while she is incubating.
He bombs me every chance I get.
He is the best papa blue I ever had!
Yay for yours Susan! -
