I have the blue one so can’t say. Mine don’t go for dried mealworms. I might start with live ones to really bring them in…
Thanks David! Good to know! Now just praying for no hurricanes LOL.
It’s just so strange…they are always long gone by now only to return in February…I’ve never had nests in July in Alabama until this year. Never. Now just hatched yesterday in august for a fourth nesting. It’s an unusual year for many of us!
So today they are 2 days old and the 10 day forecast is all in the 80’s! I have lived in South Alabama for over 25 years and have never seen august highs in the 80’s! So MAYBE they have a chance! Perhaps they knew this and I didn’t?
One not hatched as of this morning so it will be another group of 3 barring any predators or illness.
My first 4th nesting.Oh that is fantastic!!!!! I hope they all made it up into the trees!!!
Mine are usually lazy, never leave before 17 days.
Brad, the feeder is worth every penny!Praying for a success!
I would personally discard the nest since you don’t know the cause, just in case of pesticides or something.
Thanks all! Today I saw that sad thing where mom chased off one of her previous brood from the feeder. There were plenty of worms but I guess she’s looking out for those babies.
Yay! Highest temp for the week is 87! Unheard of!
Thankfully 4000 mealworms in fridge and 4000 more on the way!
That is horrible heat! Unreal!
Are Western blues less heat tolerant? I have no clue. But 90 should have been fine. Fingers crossed only one 90 degree day here but still not getting hopes up…
I’m pretty sure they are trying to ensure food for the nestlings. It must be super sad to see! My favorite thing is watching papa feed the fledgelings and their clumsy attempts at getting in the cage!
My box is in sun as well. I moved it to shade and realized the predator risk was just too great… Let’s keep each other posted!
