I completely feel your pain..
I swear every year I am going to take up another hobby…
But the blues never ever give up. And we can’t either.Gin, did you ever have a nesting this late up there?
It’s almost upsetting because it is going to be so hot here. On the upside there will be gazillions of bugs.
Randy, isn’t that the truth! I could not believe my own eyes. There was a random piece of pine straw sticking out so I opened the side door to throw it out and was completely shocked. This last fledge was by far the latest I’ve ever had.
I saw a mister for birds on wild birds unlimited that I think I should order.Speaking of predators last night I was watching my new resident raccoon who has taken to my front porch. Those arms are LOOONG! I see how easy it would be for one to clean out a birdhouse!
Yay!!! So glad you got them off of the fence posts. Good luck!!
I was amazed watching my front porch raccoon climb a tree last night. They are pretty amazing climbers. This was a flimsy Japanese Maple. A fence would be a piece of cake!
I’m curious too…snake city here…

I’m so ashamed of my garage now.Sweet thought Dene!!

Maybe it’s just too darn hot! My parents aren’t even coming to the mealworm feeder tonight 2 days after fledge! I’m going to be heartbroken if I dont see them again. My neighbor 2 doors down gets them every time!
I wish I could donate my stinky rotten egg that didnt hatch! I had it and the nest on my outside table today in a storm and it broke and it was horrible. Yuck!
What can you do with a raccoon once you trap it though? Relocate?
Whitney, I think that should work just fine. I’m glad you did it. I started years ago with one hanging from a tree that I just bought as a decoration. Then lo and behold bluebirds loved and used it for years even though it was all wrong, tin roof, perch, no side vents. Fledged 2 or 3 every year until a snake found it. Then i got super serious with research and found sialis and this site.
Now my pole is armored like crazy.
I still lost my first nesting due to HOWR as I had never given them a thought.
It’s constant live and learn…. -
