Carol, I’m like you. Never seen a HOSP in my yard but lost my first nest to probably HOWR. And even though the wrens know where the house is, it makes me feel like I’ve done all I can now that I’ve deployed the wren guard. I was surprised no egg today. Mom is really perfecting this nest!
I believe the HOWR are nesting in the neighbor’s overgrown bushes. Hope springs eternal that they are too busy with their own brood to bother my blues.Chickened out and put up wren guard before egg….
This is the first year I’ve ever had the joy of having them stick around after fledge!!!Blues everywhere! I really get how awesome it is now watching them flock around together!
My nest looks super ready. I would be shocked if there was not an egg tomorrow. Their first nest was so skimpy, maybe twenty pieces of pine straw/
Thanks for the good advice all! Getting it up as soon as daylight hits!
Praying they do OK! And I thought snakes were the worst! It’s always something!
I always thought it was at least 2 weeks e they built again unless a failed nest. They didn’t read Sialis.org!
I know one poster here told me that she closes hers for 2 weeks, I believe. But we have a time crunch due to heat. I’m adding calcium to the mealworms.
And today I saw the most amazing thing as Dad brought his little flock of babies down to the mealworm feeder!!!! None of them figured it out though. It was comical. They just stood ob branches waiting for their handout.
That must be really terrifying to have a hawk eyeing your blues! I would be a nervous wreck!Don’t close the box! Mine are rebuilding 10 days after fledge!
I can try to think of a better name!!!
Back this morning!!! YAY!!!!
That is so wonderful that you have blues! I guess I should be Lisa2!!
My blues fledged a week ago and parents were coming to the mealworm feeder religiously several times a day but since yesterday nothing but HOWR in my feeder. I can’t stand them and miss my blues! Praying they just took a day off from mealworms but seems unlikely :(
Can’t tell yet. Sorry!
Not protective against snakes either. Depending on where you are, that wood post is an invitation to snakes who can scale it with ease.
