OK, took off the wren guard Thursday afternoon and spent the night away. Three eggs this morning! She must have been saving them up!!!
Wren guard back on now. We shall see!!!Awwww!!! Happy story!!!!
Did exactly that and she is in and out again today. It makes no sense. Definite bird brains!
I’m determined to find that darn nest! Hate those little brats!
Mom doesn’t seem to want to come back to box even with the guard off 😖. Live and learn. I think the wrens may be busy with their own nest. Maybe will give mine a break.
Speaking of bird brained, 2 fledglings figured out how to get in the cage mealworms feeder but they stand in there waiting for dad to feed them!My last nest consisted of exactly 11 pieces of pine straw and all made it. But my box is the side opening with the plexiglass. I love it. Just stick my camera over the plexiglass to monitor and no danger of falling out or injuring one.
No, Gin. So stood on the guard with a mouth full of pine straw and gave up. I don’t’ get it! She should be used to it?
I mean stood on the wren guard….
I’m off tomorrow and I will look Gin! Had to take down the wren guard. Mom’s nest looks completely finished but she stood on it for hours with a mouthful of pine straw and wouldn’t go in. I really hate it because the blues are chasing off wrens so I hate for the blues to be victimized. Guess I need to wait for an egg. Pray tomorrow is the day.
So sorry. That is awful. And why blue birding is not exactly relaxing. At least to me.
Thanks! Tapping never does the trick for mine! Luckily no eggs have been harmed with my clumsiness!
Tamsea, how did you get the wrens to leave?
At least wrens don’t hurt the parents. That’s the only upside I can think of.
I had a successful nest in the same box this year after what I believe were wren got my first group of eggs.
I wish I could shoot them. And I’ve never shot anything.
I think my resident wrens have their own nest in neighbor’s bushes now. I wonder if that makes the wrens less likely to hurt the blue babies?I scared my poor bluebird mom out of the house so many times. I felt awful but it takes a lot more for them to leave their babies!
Randy, I can’t wait to hear about tomorrow! I just pray that you don’t oversleep like I did and wake up to a sad, flattened nest!!!
OMG! That’s priceless! I slept through mine fledging and kicked myself!!!
