Glenn,
It sounds like they hopefully all fledged. (fingers crossed). Keep us posted.Dana
Carol,
I hear you. Same here. No bluebird nest. Lately the sparrows have left the nestbox alone thankfully. The box just sits empty. The bluebirds are around and they eat my mealworms. I’m thinking now they may have nested nearby in a neighbor’s nestbox somewhere because they stay in the area. But yeah it’s not the same as having them nest in your own box. I miss that. In the meantime all I can do is keep an eye out for any sparrows to keep them out of nestbox. I feel for you. I hope things turn around for both of us soon.

Lisa,
Congrats! That’s great to hear. Keep us posted. I think my bluebirds have taken a hiatus this spring.

Chris,
Same here. There’s been bluebirds checking out my nestbox but they left and haven’t comeback. There’s been a lone male bluebird hanging around with no mate. Last week I trapped and disposed of two house sparrows. The box has stayed clear and empty for the bluebirds but no takers yet. Like you I also have mealworms out but barely any bluebirds have showed interest lately. In past years they usually had a nest started or completed nest by now.

Wow TWO! Carol that’s awesome!! – Dana
Carol,
Thanks! This morning I had to trap and dispose of yet another house sparrow trying to claim my nest box. I use the Van Ert Trap and let me tell you it works great! Even if you have a slot-opening box like I do.
Dana
Lisa, that’s great news! I have bluebirds checking out my box but no nest yet. It’s been cold here lately though.

Hi Carol and Lisa,
There’s been a bluebird pair checking out my bluebird box. But a house sparrow has been harassing them and going in the box and keeping them from entering. So I trapped him and disposed of him immediately. Now hopefully the bluebirds can investigate my nest box in peace next time around. But I will be keeping an eye out if I see anymore house sparrows giving them grief I will be trapping them and disposing them. Happy Spring everyone!

Connie,
Nice to hear from you again. Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving too!

Hi philly,
Have you seen whether the mockingbird has been chasing away the bluebird if the bluebird is not coming to it? Otherwise I’m not sure what else you can do. Maybe the bluebird hasn’t noticed the feeder yet. Just a guess..Dana
I just saw your post that the bluebird babies hatched! Great news! Congrats Carol!!

Wow 4th nest and eggs! I am envious here! About the heat…it got above 100 here too for awhile and I didn’t see the female bluebird go in the nestbox hardly at all to incubate except in the evenings around dusk. I’m just glad the eggs were fine and later hatched. Anyhow the heat may be why she not sitting on the eggs much. Keeping my fingers crossed that your bluebird’s eggs will be ok.

Great photos Dave! Congrats on 2nd nesting!!

Congrats Carol!! My pair are prepping for a 3rd brood now! I’m so excited over this because they usually are done after 2 broods here where I live.

(does happy dance or in this case a flip lol) Julie, thank you! Mine should hatch within the next few days if all goes well. My bluebirds dive bomb me too! I wear a ball cap for protection. Any kind of hat you have should do when you monitor. I worry more about them pooing on my head then dive bombing me. You just never know! LOL!
