Appreciate saying that keeping a used nest is a judgement call. I’ve never seen one that I would keep until that one last year (very unique situation). Have gathered up dry grass to lay on top of it if ever need to do a nest change. Wish you all the best of luck that have HOWR problems!

Poor Chickadees! They are on decline in the southeast & really need our help too. I bought a 1 & 1/8″ hole reducer in case they ever nest with me. Bless their hearts!

Awesome, Carol!

She’s being so responsible with those babies. I know you must be very proud of her!

Very good info, ladies. I wondered what would happen if they didn’t have the bedding, so that’s good to know, Gin. Do any of you change out your bedding regularly? If so, how often do you find it needs it? It certainly would be a lot easier to not use the bedding so I may try that.

Hi Bob- I don’t personally have any experience, but under the bluebird chatter highlighted topics (think it’s 4th one listed), there is a lot of information about the deluxe repeating sparrow traps. I’m sure someone else will respond, but in the interim, hopefully that will help.

Lisa- I wish you & your Mama blue the best of luck. It sounds like she’s just focusing on those babies right now. Bless her heart (& yours). Hang in there!

Deb- I thought I responded to this, but where I read that you microwave the nest is if you’re going to save it in case you ever need to do an emergency nest change. Some of the them are just too messy to save, but I did save one from last year that was relatively clean (in case I ever need to make a nest change).

That’s great, Renee! Maybe you’ll still get bluebirds.

Hi Carol & Evie-
I just bought live mealworms in bulk through the mail for the first time (got way too many). I, too, placed them in separate air-vented containers with bran & oats. My question is, “How many carrots/potatoes/apples do you put in per approx. 1,000 mealworms?” Thanks for the advise, Carol. I had also read that they needed to be fed, but didn’t know about proportions.
Evie, any more activity with what appears to be a new pair?
Thanks again!
Nicole
Hi Evie-
I’m not as experienced as others. Lots of my responses come from what I’ve read. I would think you should leave everything as is unless you see new eggs laid. At that point, I would think it would be time to remove them. Maybe someone else will comment.
Sure hope they settle down soon. Glad it appears that she found another mate.

Thanks y’all. Last year, I counted day one on hatch day & this year, I counted it on day after hatching. I guess the key is to keep track, be consistent, & make sure there is no early fledging, etc. I have truly learned so much from y’all. Thank you!
Nicole.
My six fledged yesterday. Thank goodness. Best of luck!
Nicole
Good luck, Carol.

Tammy- I responded to your PM & asked another question about disposal. Very helpful & let me know if you have any additional feedback to my question. Thanks so much for your help!
