Should have my 2nd brood of hatchlings (5 eggs) any minute now after six fledged 5 weeks ago. Hope all goes well with your 2nd brood!

I’m definitely not an expert, but wouldn’t see how the robin could intervene unless the hole is large enough? HOSP? Squirrel? Doesn’t sound like a snake. I’m sure someone else would know better from experience. So so sorry, Evie!!

I don’t have HOWR, but do have HOSP & would hate to know that I could’ve done/tried something if an attack ended up occurring. I would install it & stick around to see if she’s still entering after you install it. What’ve you got to lose in trying? Others that have experience with Wren guards may have more to offer you.

Again, hopefully someone else will comment, but I’m thinking that you should leave that hole open to keep the wrens busy as you said. I would be afraid that plugging it could lead them to the EABL box since you don’t have the wren guard up. Just my thoughts…

So sorry, Cher! Such a bummer! Think it was a snake? What an amazing photo you have of those Robins hatching. That is amazing!
Funny story- when my first bluebird nesting was going on, so was the robin’s. Was so funny to see the robin parents fit about ten mealworms in their beaks at a time to feed nestlings. Now, one of the juvenile robins stands guard on my feeder for hours (even when all mealworms are gone). That little thing that has only been in the world for a short time is bullying all the other birds away from feeder. Little stinker!
Had to get a new caged feeder for bluebirds.

So glad she stayed, Donna! That male has really been trying hard to find someone, hasn’t he? Sounds like they’re finally settling in. Sure hope so!

So so sorry, Evie. Certainly understand your sadness. You & your blues have really been through it! The good news is that they never give up!
FYI- I have a bluebird friend that has had multiple rat snake attacks & no baffle has kept them from getting to eggs or babies (box far from trees, fences, etc.). She finally had to put a Krueger guard on her pole. Tried to get her to consider Noel guard, but she said these snakes were so large that she felt the need to net the pole.

Ditto to everyone else’s comments. Box must be on slick pole with wobbly baffle. Otherwise, climbing predators of any type could get to them & WILL at some point down the road. Hope it all works out!

Keep us posted. You may be one of the lucky ones to have the juveniles help feed! I’ve seen 2 juveniles from my first brood several times, but they seem to be on their own. Wish they would help feed because I’m pretty sure something bad happened to the Dad. Should have 2nd brood hatchlings here as early as tomorrow. Hope Mom can handle it!

So glad your Mom found a new mate! Sure hope she continues to care for those fledgers. Pretty sure my female is in same situation yours was in. Haven’t seen the male in over a week at all! Should have hatchlings for 2nd brood as early as tomorrow. Pretty sure she’s going to be on her own, but will do all I can to help her. She was calling for her/a mate today. So sad! Glad to have heard your experience or I would be a wreck!

I have two juveniles coming back to my feeder from 1st brood. Could be they’re the only survivors after 6 fledged 5 weeks ago. These 2 are always together & adorable!
