So sorry to hear this about all 5 eggs Tammy. I think I lost one but not sure. It is going to get chilly here again this coming week, not as bad as it was, but cold enough to wear a jacket. Hope the Bluebirds are laying again.
ConnieHi Judy, so glad you have eggs and the guard worked. Mine have hatched, but I think only 4 have made it.
ConnieGreat David. Hope they all make it. Mine have just hatched, looks like 4 to me.
ConnieAnxious to hear how the two boxes work out Rich. I have no luck whatsoever with 2 boxes.
ConnieWow David, that is not normal for you, I hope something starts happening soon. Good Luck.
ConnieThat is good news Carol. I am not sure all of mine will make it either. One was laid and that night we had temps in the 20’s, but it is day 8 of the brooding cycle so we shall know soon.
I am hoping the injured Blue survived and one day he will pay you a visit.
ConnieWow Chris, 6eggs is certainly a nest full and congrats on the white eggs and all of them hatching.
ConnieGood news from your house, so happy all turned out for the good. I like you, thought my female was laying her eggs later in the morning, but this is the earliest in the year that I have had a nesting pair, and these mornings have been down right chilly. Right now mama is sitting on 5 beautiful eggs. Good luck with your Blues.
ConnieSo sorry to read this Carol. I hope this story has a happy ending, it is so hard to watch an animal suffer and not be able to do anything to help.
ConnieVery handsome fellow David, hope they get down to business soon. Keep us informed.
ConnieGreat news Rich. They are so much fun to watch, especially when one is smoking a cigarette.
Good Luck with the season.
ConnieDavid, the last sentence should have said, “ Since then Mama has built a new nest and has 5 new eggs in it”
Thanks David, but as I told Tammy, I know without a doubt it was the dees. Even after I removed the nest and put it in the box where I found the egg on the floor and placed the egg in it, the dee destroyed it too. Since Mama has built another nest and she is brooding 5 eggs.
ConnieTammy, I am positive they did the dirty deed. Since my experience I have seen an in-box video of the BCCH in a Bluebird box piercing the egg and removing it from the box, and have read about a few more incidences.
ConnieRenee, what an array of birds you have. We always get Mockingbirds but I have never seen the nest. I had a pair of Carolina wrens around all winter, but now I only hear them. I forgot all about the HOWR and I do not have a guard on the Bluebird box. I hope that is not going to turn into a big problem, but maybe by the time they arrive the nestlings will be too big for them to attack.
