Dene, any follow-up? I’ve been wondering about your babies. . .
Susan
PennsylvaniaI saw a little one peeking this morning. I had to leave for the day, and I think they fledged while I was gone. I haven’t seen the parents. Even when I was hanging out around the birdhouse, the parents didn’t come out to keep an eye on me like they usually do. I don’t want to risk opening the box in case they all didn’t go (there were 5 in there). I’m pretty sure they’re gone, but I am going to wait until tomorrow to observe the area and see if I spot the adults. Hopefully they are all staying safe!
Susan
PennsylvaniaCongratulations, Lisa. Good Luck!

PennsylvaniaCongratulations on the successful year. It is really satisfying to see the babies and adults come back after the fledging. My babies are 16 days old, and still in the box. Mama and Papa are tending the box regularly. I’m just wondering why I’m not seeing peeking. I thought they would fly the coop by now!

PennsylvaniaThe problem with Photobucket is that they changed it, and now you have to pay a big fee to view images. Imgur.com is a free site that allows you to upload and post photos online. You might want to try that. :-) I’d like to see your “tree!”
Susan
PennsylvaniaThat sounds like a good idea. It seems it would be better to take the shade to the house instead of the house to the shade (if at all possible).

PennsylvaniaWhen I wanted to post photos a few weeks ago, Brad suggested that I upload my photos at imgur.com and then just include the link in my post. It worked fine, and it didn’t cost anything! :-)

PennsylvaniaHey! I was going to be brave and go for it! Seems we’re all outta luck! Ha Ha!
Susan
PennsylvaniaThanks, Dene. The humidity dropped here a little yesterday, and today is supposed to be much more comfortable. So far, so good. It sounds like your babies have an even tougher go of it in Texas. Whew! 110 heat index is sick! Good luck to you and your little ones.
Susan
PennsylvaniaI will give it a go later today. What’s the worst that can happen.
Often times these kinds of issues can be settled by switching browsers. I exclusively use Chrome and rarely have problems. IE and Firefox are notorious for weird glitches. I have an appointment to get ready for this a.m., but I will try it later. Wish me luck!

PennsylvaniaLast year, I had just one brood because my papa blue died when the babies were only a few days old. I helped mama blue with lots of meal worms, and four babies fledged successfully. Just like that, they all disappeared–mama and the babies. As fall approached, the babies came back for drinks at the birdbath. I fed meal worms and they stayed all winter.
This year, a new bluebird couple moved in. After my first brood fledged in mid-June, I saw them within a few days of the fledging. I wasn’t expecting that. I thought they would be gone for at least a few weeks. They sat on my deck rail, fence and birdbath. Papa was working hard to feed them because he and mama started a new nest almost immediately. I never saw a second nest pop up so quickly. Sadly, (as I stated a while ago), three of the babies were lost to predators, and I don’t know what happened to the other two. Maybe it would have been better if they had stayed under cover for a few weeks. I don’t know why they came back so soon after fledging.

PennsylvaniaExcellent news! I was hoping that all of the babies were okay. I took my wren guard off today at Day #8. It really has seemed to make a difference for the parents. They have been flying back and forth to the house all day. I tried to go down to peek at the babies, but papa wasn’t very accepting of the idea, so I cut him a break. I figured he had enough on his plate with all of this heat without me adding to the stress. I will try to check them out later in the evening.
I’m happy for you and the little one!
Susan
PennsylvaniaIt is really hard to let the babies go, isn’t it? I have about a week to watch my parents feed the babies and then it will be time for them to “fly the coop.” Like you, I hope they stick around a while, but you never know.
Susan
PennsylvaniaThat is crazy. We have been hammered with heat and humidity–it’s downright oppressive. We had a storm here yesterday afternoon that dropped the temperature down to 73 degrees overnight. It was the first break that my bluebirds have had in 8 days. I imagine them breathing a sigh of relief. . . It’s still going to be hot this week, but at least they are forecasting mid to high eighties instead of 90’s.
Susan
PennsylvaniaThanks for the positive thoughts. So far, so good. I guess I will take the wren guard off tomorrow. (babies 7 days old). It’s a tough call. The guard does shade the front of the house, but I also want to make it easier for mama and papa to do their work.
