Congratulations Carol‼️ Sounds like this group managed to fledge in better weather. That’s a good thing. I wonder why they chose to fledge just before dark…seems like one more night in the cozy box might have been have been good.
I purchased a new box for next season……made sure I got one with the 5 inch floor. None were perfect, so I made a few modifications to make it better for the blues. I put it out so it could get weathered. Hoping they like it. We’ll see.

David, as always your pictures are great‼️ I like the ones with the older siblings hanging out with the new fledglings. What fun they are to watch. Thanks for sharing. It has been a very good year. Already looking forward to next season.

August 7, 2019 at 9:28 pm in reply to: Getting upset with Mama & papa – not feeding like I think they should #7713Carol…..I get a chuckle from your posts. Mama and papa blue are probably pretty tired of fledglings about now. No energy left for discipline. Glad they straightened things out today. Must be fun to see them all together.
It has been a great year‼️ I was thrilled with 2 nestings, 3 would be awesome. I was clueless when I decided to put up a bluebird box, but it’s a labor of love.

David….thanks for sharing your photos always exciting to see the hatchlings. Hope #4 hatches soon.
Carol….great to hear all five of your 3rd nesting hatched. I was hoping you would report, I knew your hatch day was suppose to be Thursday.
Congratulations‼️ Happy Birding‼️

AGP….enjoyed your photos. That little one is so cute. Thank you for sharing.

Gin…..Yup, baffle wobbles and the spooker streamers touch the roof. We have a few starlings in our area, but I have never seen them around the bluebird boxes. Nothing close enough to jump onto the box from. Thank you for trying to help me figure out what happened. I’m wondering if it could have been a weasel. Something either flew in or got around the baffle.

AGP, How fun to be able to watch the babies help out. I have not observed that yet…..but I’m new at this (second season). I really enjoy seeing the young ones sit on top of the boxes. They did that for about a week, now I do not see them. Happy birding.

Thanks Connie, I was wondering if it had been a coon. Has anyone heard of a raccoon being able to climb the stovepipe baffle? Or maybe a red squirrel?
Good news is that I have 3 bluebird babies going to fledge soon from my backyard box. Today is Day 14 they are starting to get some blue in their feathers.

Thanks Carol…..I feel the same, we can only do our best. As far as it being a HOSP, I had a sparrow spooker up and they had never bothered a box with the spooker up in the past. I’ve not seen any hanging around the box. Whatever it was left 2eggs and didn’t return in 2 days to get them. Guess it will remain a mystery.
Overall It’s been a good season, this is the first time I have had second nestings.

Dana, that’s great news‼️ I was happy getting 2nd nestings. They are still working on round two, so I believe it will be too late in the season to get a 3rd nesting. Sure is fun and exciting. Congratulations.

Thanks Carol……the guard is off. I had in my notes to remove it on day 11 or 12. Do you prefer earlier? I have been doing it on day eleven. I appreciate all the help.

Gin, thanks for your response. Guess all we can do is try a wren guard and hope for the best. The guard does keep rain from blowing into the box during a storm. Good news …the babies are 11 days old and the wren didn’t return to do more damage. They should fledge in a week or so.
In the front box there are 4 bluebird eggs…..should hatch next Thursday (2nd nesting). Over all it’s been a great season. Happy Birding‼️

Lisa, you had an excellent season. Congratulations. One day turn-a-round would shock me also. I have really enjoyed all the action too. They leave here around September 1st. We have next season to look forward to. Winter seems to pass quickly when we are looking forward to April blues.

Lol….I agree HOWRs need to read the rule book. We are also in a rural subdivision with large acreage. We have paired boxes front and backyards. I had hubby make me a portable post in a coffee can with cement, I can move around the yard next season. So with your four boxes you let the wrens choose one to fill? Of the 4 boxes how many pairs of blues have you had nesting at one time. All 4 filled with blues would be super cool‼️

Carol ….You are having a great bluebird season. Three nests with 5 eggs is wonderful. Mine have had 4 eggs or less. Plus they get started later because of our cold weather. So, I’m happy to get a second nest. Thanks for sharing all your bluebird knowledge with us newbies. I have learned a lot here. Happy birding.
