I’m with Carol. It has only happened once here, but I just used a small plastic spoon to carefully remove the egg before the young birds get to large. It is easier to gently move them around to get the egg while they are still small.

Stafford, VASaw your post and it look great. I am glad that it worked for you.

Stafford, VAFingers crossed for warmer weather. I do believe that they are out there – just waiting for the right time. Last year my pair did not start their nest until May. We had bad and cold weather up until late April- so there is still hope.
David
Stafford, VAYou can use non-sugared breakfast cereal such as Wheaties, Cornflakes, or oatmeal for food also.

Stafford, VACarol, in a cool refrigerator (50-59 degrees) they should last for about 6-8 months. In normal 70+ degree temperatures they will begin to turn into white pupae in 6 weeks to 8 m0nths. 14-24 days after that they turn to beetles. The beetle can survive 2-3 months. If you are not giving them anything but cut carrots their survival rate will decrease. I kept mine in a wheat bran bedding and had to sift out the pupae and beetles. Most of those in the refrigerator in our garage died off during the extremely cold winter.

Stafford, VAChris, I am not sure whether you are asking about my photos or the other Dave’s in-box camera. I use my iPhone to take the photos , then upload them imjur to post here.
I was doing a procedure to use the mobile app and closed it before I posted it. Lost it.David
Stafford, VAA little late with this Rich. I have had 2 nest boxes on my lot, one in the front yard in a flower garden and the box that I photograph a lot in the back yard. They are separated by my house and not in visual sight of each other unless the birds land on the peak of the roof line. I never had any trouble with this arrangement. I do have a large lot and the houses are separated by more than 150 feet.
David

Stafford, VAI am interested, Tammy. I have always had the bunched chicken wire and hardware cloth inside the baffle but now with my 8″ baffle, I find that it does not move much from side to side when I touch it near the bottom edge. I might take the chicken wire out and put it above the baffle as you suggested.

Stafford, VAWe have 5 now. I will check the box again later to see if there is another as the other Dave found in his nest.

David
Stafford, VAYes, Judy, they appear to be the same pair. I think that they were with me all winter as I had 3 or 4 bluebirds at my nut and seed feeder. I did see the male chase off one male and possibly the second female about a month ago. He also shut down a pair of HOSP. I have not seen them since that day, but I am ready if they return.
David
Stafford, VAAnd then there were 4. This is the first time that I have notices more than 1 egg with a white spot on it.

David
Stafford, VAThank you Carol. I am sure that as your weather warms up, the Bluebirds will be back. Mine took a while before they started to build.
David
