I bet the nest will dry out quickly. I’m just glad there’s no babies it it.
Tammy
Yes, put up another box quickly. As in tomorrow. That will help with the TRES situation. I like Gins idea about the hole reducer. You can make one using a milk jug. Look on the Sialis website for size.
Tammy
Bummer! Hope he finds a mate soon.
Tammy
Lisa, no need to feel ashamed for peeking twice. There’s no harm in that. It’s probably wise.
Tammy
Or put up a new box further away and see if they take that one. That’s what I would do…just in case.
Tammy
Do you monitor it Mark? Because if you don’t you’ll be so thrilled if you start doing it and it’s wise to monitor. You may want to be careful though right now if you have no idea how old the babies are. They do get extra agitated when their babies are about ready to fledge. And most bluebirds are not like this but there’s been several people on here who have had aggressive bluebirds.
Tammy
I agree. But I would probably just move it. Sometimes birds are hesitant when they see another nest. I think your mind would be more at rest if you removed it…if you are anything like me.
Tammy
It takes a lot for a female to leave her eggs so it isn’t a surprise, like Gin said, that she’s incubating. She can do this!
Tammy
I’ve only had that happen once…so sad.
Tammy
I rarely remove my unhatched eggs.
Tammy
So many different opinions. LOL Just to throw one more in, I would keep all the boxes open. Use both the other boxes to trap HOSP. You don’t need two traps, just screws in each box. Or you never know what other bird might end of picking one of the other boxes. I keep all mine open and I have 8 at my house and 14 on a trail nearby.

Welcome, Ben. Like others said, your nestboxes are enough to draw the Bluebirds. But feeding is fun because you can gradually bring them closer to your house.
Tammy
Welcome, Dene. Carol seemed to answer all your questions so I just wanted to say hi. Using the chain saw for a short time isn’t going to bother her. You can monitor them just like you can Martins. (I have martins). After this nesting do what Carol suggested and make that pole that the house is on so you can monitor the nests. It is on a pole, right? If not, please put it on a slick metal pole. Glad to have you here.
Tammy
Great news, Deb.
Tammy
They drink out of a regular hummingbird feeder? Cool!
